I have a HUGE problem with Panda 1.1 (2008). Engine stops especially while driving during cold, rainy days. The problem occurs also often on a bumpy road or cornering, starting at traffic lights, etc.. Engine stops (at the same time "check engine" lamp light up for a moment) and I have to start the engine again. Sometimes the engine restarts when driving momentum. I was many times in the Fiat Service, changed spark plugs and the shaft positiong sensor, and still the same problem. Car mechanics do not know what is wrong with my car, because computer don't showing any errors.
The car is powered only by petrol. The problem occurred a long time, but recently more and more often last weeks, sometimes 5 times during a 10 minute of drive ..

Interestingly, for example, when I drive to work every day, the engine stops located in the same place on the road, approx. 3 minutes after starting the car.

P.S. I'm sorry for my poor English, I'm form Poland.

Remove and clean both ends of the earth lead between ECU and body (goes to rear of inner wing) see if that helps. Might as well clean up the other earth leads that bolt on the body near there at the same time :)

Hi Paul, and welcome to FF,

IF the engine light comes on , then it SHOULD store a code,

however the YELLOW light is for the oxygen sensor (lambda) in the exhaust,
that's why it stays on for a few seconds after engine has started,
out of interest is the battery OLD, it CAN cause stupid running issues,
but NOT usually this severe..,
as stated cleaning EARTH points is a good start,
Charlie 2004 1.1 Active, and 2007 1.1 Active

Thanks for the advices. I fast check the earth connections, there are strong connected and lookin good (no rust, also car is in very good condition, 50000 km mileage). I also tried to shake cables while engine is running and nothing has happened. A month ago, I threw out two cables from the top of the ECU and cleared it with compressed air. The car drove without a problem for 3 weeks, but the weather was recently dry. This week was cold and rainy, the problem starts again. Tomorrow will try to tighten the cables again.

I've also googled about this problem, and I found that it may be ignition switch problem (situation where there is no ECU problem, no error codes). It will be a good idea try to change ignition switch?

An interesting phenomenon is also the fact that when I drive and the yellow engine control lights up, and I feels that the car just goes off, it helps sometimes to full throttle. Then yelow light goes out, and engine starts up again.

Car baterry (Varta - Johson Controls) is good and it's 2 yers old.

This is similar to several previous threads.
Check the earth cable very carefully, from battery, to gearbox and then to the car body. Not just the end connections, also check it has not broken along its length inside the insulation. There have been several instances of this here.

As stated above, REMOVE and clean the earth cables - they won't be loose, but can be corroded all the same.
If ECU looses power, it won't store any codes.......
