Panda (Classic) My 1986 panda, 1301 cc diesel

Introduction

Hi! I'm from Croatia, and I am new to the forum. My english may not be so good sometimes, sorry for that. :D

I recently bought my first car, panda of course ;), it's 1986 1301cc diesel, and i got second engine with it. The one that is in the car is in good shape as far as i know, but the second one is not in such good shape. The interior is real mess, and there is a lot of work to be done. I am planing to repainting, and full restauration. Any suggestions where to start from?

And one more thing, I don't have car at home yet, it's about 150 miles from me. I will pick it up in month or so, when I find some time.

Here are some pics.

Any suggestions are welcom (y) thanks!
I like the seat pattern, and never knew that they did a diesel Panda.

I'd start off by emptying the rubbish out of it, and give it a check over underneath and all over for rust.

Hi there, welcome to the forum :)

Wow, I've never seen a Panda diesel before, I know they were sold on the continent but never seen photos of one.

It looks in pretty good condition from the photos, but I would think the best place to start is making sure its all solid and rust free underneath, then move onto the other things like the interior etc.

I've got a 5 litre water bottle in the boot too!!

I like the clunking sound it makes as I corner quickly!!

All joking aside that's the fullest engine bay i've seen; panda sports and Leweys included!! How does it drive??

I reckon a T-jet out of a mk3 could be a good conversion... I digress...

Yeah, diesel panda, I was amazed to first time I saw it. :D

Drives like a baby, but never driven non-diesel panda, so I cannot compare...

Welcome. Looks fab. I'd love a Diesel Panda. lol

Random question, I know Panda's are not suppost to be fast, but is the 1.3 Diesel fast, or a bit of a snail?

As said by others, check chasis and sills for rot. Although, not sure what your country is like, but if dry, rot shouldn't be a problem (y)

BTW love the pic's with the sea (I assume) in the background.

According to the world wide web, the engine is a de-tuned version of what they put in the Uno Diesels which were available over here. At 37BHP and more weight than the petrol, it can't be quick! Be a close call whether it could out drag a 750, despite it's diesel torque?! :)

Well done though Miljac for having the only diesel classic Panda on the forum!

Whell, it has 37 bhp, so it cannot be very fast, but never tried it at higher speed, settlement wher it is located is very small, and full of turnings, and uphil roads. So I'l let you know in month or so, when I'l brought it home over the highway. ;)

and yes, you're assuming well, it is sea in the background (y)

:eek:This is a first for me, I never knew they did Diesel Panda's!! Welcome to the forum.

As above, I'd start by clearing it out, check the floor pan and sills for rusting. 37bhp from a 1.3diesel seems low, I would be very interested to see what it can do (economy, 0.60 etc).

Welcome to the Forum!
