It's going to make car cloning easier isn't it? now a fake tax disc is easy to spot and its how a lot of clone cars are found.
If they don't need anything in the window and plates can still be got off ebay with no v5 cloning is going to rise.

in theory you could also run a few cars that are exactly the same with same number plates, 4 people in a family get 1 insurance policy with named drivers, buy 4 red puntos and all be driving them at the same time, crime is going to go up...................

i'v read some crap on this
Cancelled
“Instead, the balance of tax will be cancelled (for a refund from the DVLA) and the new owner must buy new car tax. This will be an added inconvenience for motorists who are changing vehicles, but we appreciate that this is to ensure that no-one is unknowingly put at risk of driving an untaxed vehicle.

I'm in favor of the new no visual tax disc, it about bl**dy time.
Sticking bits of paper to your wind screen.........no more(y)
As far as people forgetting to remember to tax there cars as there will be no visual reminder will be taken over by email or text reminders, as you can do with mot's.
Failing that buy a calender and write the due date on that.
Or, put a reminder on the inside of your windscreen.

The only good thing ican see about the change is,
it gives those who give an excuse of an untaxed vehicle no excuse anymore,
as it will give them the option to pay 'monthly'.

they is doing it for there own benefit, no one else's.
Jobs will be lost,
secound hand car sales will fall,
they will pocket good money out of this change,

Yes, but I strongly suspect ANPR cameras will talk to each other and if 2 cars with the same plate show up 15 miles apart at the same time then plod will come around and feel someone's collar about it.

I suspect you'll see more small camera's sprouting around towns and on motorways and a lot more integration with surveillance camera's, it'll seem strange for a while then we'll all get used to it.

If you run a company car, how will you know it is taxed? When one overstressed person has responsibility of taxing many cars, it is possible one may get missed. We can hope that in the case of company vehicles, prosecution of the driver may be avoided, but we will have to wait and see.

Years ago in Dorset, a coach company "twinned" several of their school run buses, and were careful that the twins did not attend the same school. They were caught when a policeman friend of mine went to get a witness statement from one of their drivers and noticed a "very long bus" as two were in line with the same reg.

If someone has a car similar to yours, and applies your plates to his, he could get away without tax and insurance for years. If ANPR shows the same reg in two places at once, you will get the visit from the police. And you will get stopped daily until the other guy is caught. Should we all carry our V5 with us?

What about this one...

You need a valid MOT to tax the car. The car has been off the road on SORN for a while and you are ready to re-MOT it and then you can tax it. If an ANPR camera picks you up on the way to the MOT station you will get given an instant fine. How would you appeal?

And this is different to how things are now in what way? Why will they stop the genuine car and not the cloned one?

I assume the comment is about the last bit of my post.

Currently the other party would have to display a tax disc. Possible, but does give him a challenge. When tax discs disappear, he only needs the plates, which as said above, are easier to come by.
If ANPR shows the same reg in two places at once, you will get the visit from the police.
This may happen now, but with tax discs disappearing, it is likely that there will be more ANPR cameras, and eventually, they will compare data better. I think currently they are regional, not national.

Please point out where I said they would not stop the cloned car. Both cars are likely to be stopped, but this may take some time.
306Maxi, in the past, most of your posts have been constructive, but recently some are argumentative and this seems to be increasing. Whatever is upsetting you, please let us know if we can help.
