Just having the usual saturday night chat with wife and realising i dont actuall know the answer

So whos in charge the Queen and then.... where does prince phillip fit in etc etc please help me out as at the age of thirty ive realized i have paid no attention to this in my entire life

Please excuse my ignorance.

If Charles William and Harry were taken out of the picture along with the current unborn, then the line of succession would pass over to prince Andrew and his children

Because the line of succession works off blood line and not by marriage, prince Philip is currently something like 500th in line.

So philip has no influence as such, Although he is worshiped as a god in some parts of the world which is kinda odd

Phil's position might appear odd, but he's married in to the family and not part of it.

Primogeniture applies in the UK, in that the right of succession passes first to the male heirs (although this has been highlighted as something to change - although any change will only be relevant of the first child of Kate and Willy is a daughter and they later have a son).

When the ruler on the throne is female, they're Queen but their husband is not King (they're "consort" until a title is given to them). Hence, Prince Phil. He is in line to the throne, but not because of his marriage to Lizzy, it's because he was already a great-great grandchild of Queen Vickie and was in line anyway - he's his wifes third cousin according to Wiki.

At least this was an easy question.. If you'd started asking their purpose in the world, that would have been tougher.

the Prime minister is in charge, but the reigning monarch (the queen at the mo) is the figurehead.

Queen is married to her consort prince philip (also known as Duke of Edinburgh)

They have four children who are in line to the throne, at this level is is age/gender related so the oldest male, next older mail, younger mail, the female.

However has all of the queens children have children it again gender ages through each family group so in line to the throne in order is...Charles, william, harry, andrew, beatrice, euginie, edward, edwards sone, edwards daughter, ann, peter philips, zara (the list goes on).

Recent legislation says that from now on the gender is taken out of the eqation, but that this does not effect the existing line, however once William has a child of either gender that child joins the line of sucession and moves everyone else down a place.

It is common in modern times for royals to have two children (an heir and a spare), once williams child has a child everyone else higher in the list is either dead or gets knocked down one on the list....

so IF harry(3rd) died, andrew is next(moves from 4th to 3rd), but then baby (becomes 3rd) arrives so andrew goes down the list to 4th again,

in realitiy in 30 year time Queen is dead and charles is dead so William is king, baby is 2nd, another baby 3rd, harry 4th. Andrew probably dead. Baby in 2nd place has a baby so baby in 3rd and harry move down to 4th & 5th...
