my firsy year/18k service is nearly due, and i have been given 2 quotes. my car has 15000 miles almost exactly
the first from stonecare peterborough is 165 pounds, and does a full service including oil change.
the second was corby fiat, and quoted 101 pounds if it doesnt need an oil change, or 180 pounds if the oil needs changing.
which should i choose?
i asked fiat corby if i could just do the oil change myself, and they said that the computer needs resseting after, and they wouldnt reset it if i changed oil myself. does anyone know if i can reset this myself? as im not really sure im going to pay 80 pounds to get a filter changed and some fresh oil. i have the feeling they will change the oil whether it needs or not to, as its 80 pounds extra for them.
cheers for any advice and help (y)

If you have a DPF, you will need to have the oil quality checked. If they change it, it will need to be reset. I believe only Examiner can do this at the moment.

cheers, i think they should reset if i changen it myself though, they should understand that 80pounds is alot for an oil change, when i can do it myself fro free apart from paying for oil and filter

They will probably charge you 30mins worth of labour to reset the light on Examiner. You would be better just letting them do it, by the time you've finished it won't be far off £80 anyway.

Hi,
Any idea on the price of a 3rd year service for a 1.9 GP it was nearly £500 last year. Wondering if I need to save up and not have a holiday!

Easiest and most accurate way to find out is just to ring up stealers and get a quote off them. Then go round and play them off each other to get it cheaper.

I have changed oil /serviced mine 3 times and service light has cleared itself after a short while without using the examiner.
I might be wrong but i am sure there is a sensor that monitors the status of the oil quality.

yeah it was the senosr that the man said he resets, apparantly the oil quality sensor needs resseting everytime the oil is changed. is there a way this could be done?

Just wait a few hundred miles and resets itself else obtain a electronic tool to reset (not aware of any available for this outside of fiat).

why dont people budget for servicing and upkeep or better still get a service plan when buying a car:confused:

if you rememebr my previous threads, i shouldnt be servicing until june, but they managed to sell me a new car with only 7 months aa cover left, and 7 months until a servcie, just becaue it had been sitting in a showroom for a couple of months. its not money issues, well maybe a littke bit, but i think 80 pounds to change oil and filter is quite expensive. i was never offered a service plan, i shall look into that (y)

The 4th service on the 1.9MJ is quite a big one. Needs a brake fluid change and replacement of accessories belts (think this means ones like to the aircon unit, etc). I know as it was a nightmare to get a smaller garage to do it all! They just declined to do the service once looking on Autodata and seeing a labour time of somewhere near 4 hours. I got fed up of trying to explain all that needed doing and decided it was just easier for me to go to a FIAT garage at £382...
