My exhaust has a 20 cm long stainless steel embellisher welded on the end of the mild steel tailpipe; the purpose of this, as well as looking decorative, is probably to ensure the gases are directed clear of the bodywork (the motorhome has a coach-built body so is several inches wider than a panel van)
For some reason the tailpipe has rotted all the way round just where it adjoins the stainless steel, (the embellisher came away in my hand while I was investigating the rasping vibrating noise when reversing!)
For anyone with a similar set-up it it probably worth keeping a check on this as almost certainly the standard 2.8JTD exhaust won't come with this extension and it would have to sourced separately if it does fall off.
As the rest of the tailpipe was in reasonably good condition I was able to reattach my embellisher although it is now a couple of cms shorter.
