hi, i have 2.5 turbo deisel, 1991. there is a whirring noise in 5th gear on my camper, the noise goes when i take my foot off the accelerator then returns when back on. is this a gear box problem ? as i read it is common on this model. i would appreciate any ideas. thanx

if you look at the post about 4 below this one all will be revealed .. the usual problem is 5th gear syncro wear ending up with some teeth coming off and then it jumps out of fifth the only other thing i can think of is worn diff bearings but as i said hard to diagnose without hearing it
