Another question.

Apparently we need more things doing on our 7 seat family diesel.

We need a new clutch soon and timing belt(s) as we are over 114,000Kms.

Also is a quote for a set of pinions (juego de pinones in Spanish) which are going to cost around €350 to buy and fix.

Can someone explain what these are please? Are they related to either the clutch or the timing belts because if not then this is a third thing needing doing and we don't have a quote for the timing belt(s).

Thanks

Not sure what you mean by pinions? If you mean the bottom ball joints which attach the wishbone to the bottom of the suspension strut then I have replaced both mine and they can be bought here in Spain for about 20 euros each or about £12 off eBay in UK. They're a bit fiddly to do and mine were done by a friend and take about an hour each side (originals have to have the rivets ground out but the new ones get supplied with bolts) If this isn't what you mean then I'm sorry I can't help. This is a link to the part I'm referring to

It might be the ring gear that goes around the flywheel which the starter motor pinion engages in. If you have a new dual mass flywheel with the clutch then you dont get a new set of teeth. Is it noisy or harsh when turning over on the starter motor. When a dmf fails, it can in extreme cases break up into fragments which then ruin the starter motor too. Ask them.

Thanks for replies.

Well Spanish garage couldn't explain to me and set of pinions was the closest i could get to a translation which obviously isn't good enough.

Of course could be wrong and the translation is a game of pine nuts!!!

I think I'll have to find an English garage and get them to take a look.
