Tappet/hydraulic lifter noise on my 150 JTD multijet is quite loud, have any other members experienced this. I have regular oil and filter changes (every 6 months regardless of mileage) the cars covered 14,000 now MPG has improved but I feel it’s noisy for an hydraulic set up even though its got sixteen of them working away.

I must say mine is the same and I'm going to book it in with Fiat for them to look at. My car has now done 14,000 miles since July and hasn't had an oil change yet as it's not due until 18,000.

Let me know the outcome mate ill book mine in if they decide there’s a fault on yours. please be aware of the Fiat dealer L I D phrase they used on me with my gearbox noise problem (got a nice new one now, no noises) Let It Develop

I've been to them once for a knocking from the front suspension. They said it was the plastic under tray and so they have adjusted it. The noise is just the same.

The noise on mine almost sounds like it's coming from behind the passenger footwell. What about yours?

Same here mate my missus was driving me back from the pub the other night and i could hear it more, so that bears out your noise location increase. Thought it was me being fussy as and I teach Motor Vehicle Technology at the local college for a living and I suppose to be truthful it has to be bang on or it drives me mad

This tappet noise is quiet pronounced when cold which I accept as being usual but returns at normal running temp not constantly but under load (accelerating) and diminishes at cruise speeds.

I would say it's a leaking exhaust manifold but that's on the front of the engine IIRC.

Should get it booked in next week so I'll keep you posted.
 
When I checked the oil the other day it was half way between the min and max lines on the dipstick... Sounds like this is quite common.
 
Well I'm back from Fiat.

The guys seems to think my tapping noise was the EGR valve opening and closing at high speed. I wasn't convinced but there isn't much I can do about that.

I had another knocking noise coming from the drivers side front suspension, last time they adjusted the under tray but this time he was convinced it's the anti roll bar drop link. They are ordering me a new one and it's going to be fitted next Wednesday. He said they'll take a closer look at the tapping noise if it gets worse between now and then.

My response to the EGR valve would be “fine when can you fit a new one then” cause EGR valves don’t make that sort of noise mate

i have a 2008 150 mjet sport and it started making this ticking noise at 7k. after doing a oil and filter change the noise was the same. i then gt the tappets/lifters replaced under warranty - it seemed fine for a few days but the noise came back. it happens more when its a cold start or when ive left it for 3 or 4 hours. its intermittent, im gona get fiat to look at it better after ive done my 18k service when they put fresh oil again.
a egr valve will NOT make a tapping noise and there would be a loss of power so forget that myth.

i have the same noise but mines the multijet 120 i have took mine fiat and they just sed theres nothing wrong with it so i looked like a dick lol and i had knocking from front suspension and it was the anti-roll bars they put a new set on and now its fine but still knocking from the engine i gonna take mine back in today and see what they say is i tell them it could be the EGR valve
 
They dont know what it is, as obviously they all have different ideas and are all clutching at straws - seems to be a common theme with fiat dealerships.

Im surprised they replaced all the tappets thats quite a big job on a car less than a year old.
 
Well I took my car in again today to have the ARB link replaced but when they checked it everything was OK. Upon further inspection they noticed that the exhaust heatshield around the fuel tank was significantly bend and they decided this was the cause of the noise. I can't see how this would cause a solid clunking noise that appeared to come from the drivers side front wheel but I couldn't convince them. So they have bent everything back in place, adjusted the undertray again and tested it. All seemed fine to them. I've not driving it far since this so can't comment on wheather it's fixed the noise.
