Hello. I have to replace camshaft at my 1.4 Bravo. I searched eBay and found lots of cheap (79 GPB) camshaft kits. Are they worth trying? I understand that originals are much better but I'm rather short on money so the question is to get cheap one or not to do anything.

Also another question. Are the cam followers and hydro-compensators are the same?

Thank you all in advance.

What about the second question? Are the cam followers and hydro-compensators the same?

The followers and 'hydro-compensators' aren't the same thing. The compensators (hydraulic tappets) don't appear to be contained in the linked kits.
I don't think there's anything wrong with these kits at all. I think the bigger issue with the 1.4 will be making sure that the oil feed pipe is completely clear and clean before you put it back and make sure you use new oil seals on it.

The first link there only apears to be 8 cam followers there should be 12 as the second link has.

Make sure you clean the oil feed bar, best thing to do is submerge it in parafin for a couple of hours.

It's not that the cam in the 1.4 is poor quality its the fact that the oil feed bar is blocked which is common on the 1.4 and has starved the head of oil.

Like all metal componants they will wear if the is no lubrication.

Wouldnt wory to much about the cam buckets it will be the cam shaft thats worn and the followers beacuse the cam would of worn the white metal off the followers.

Unless there's a rattle caused by a failed hydraulic tappet - either seized or won't 'pump up' - I'm not sure you need to bother. Make sure they're ok and not in pieces, use decent fresh oil and make sure that oil feed pipe is fully clean.

The rattle is what everything started from. The rattle was so loud that I decided to open the cover and find out the camshaft hardly worn.

It may be a seized tappet then.

Put your rocker cover back on start the engine leave it idleing for 5-10 mins to get warmed up and take the oil cap off.

See if you get loads of oil splashing out.

That will tell you whether or not the oil feed bar is blocked.

If you get loads of oil splashing out that would suggest your cam is not worn, and obviously if there is a bit/no oil splashing out then it suggest the the feed bar is blocked and has worn your cam.

As I wrote the camshaft is worn. Or I understand you wrong?

Anyways I will try this test with splashing oil.

I did not put it. I heard the rattle, opened the top engine cover and find out that camshaft is hardly worn. Now I found this cheap one at eBay and will replace camshaft and possible hydos.

Sorry for my bad English.

I think we're getting a bit confused here....
Hardly worn = not worn very much - only a few very light marks on the lobes and not enough to need replacement
Badly worn = it makes a noise like somebody firing an AK47 and needs replacing :)
