Hi, i usually lurk in the Cinquecento section but at my local scrap yard next to a totally stripped out Cinq was an X1/9. I know nothing about these cars but i thought that if any of you guys here need bits then this one looks almost complete. It is NOT going to get back on the road, but it may be a good donor or source for spares. I only briefly looked over it but it has red body, black leather, 4x 13" wheels. Apart from that i know nothing more, but if anyone wants parts getting and sending then i don't see why i can't drop in there again. Car is perched on top of another car, so anything difficult may not be possible for me to get to. But let me know if you need anything, or if you are in the South Lincs area then go have a look yourself.

Hi There,

You say its in South Lincolnshire.
Where abouts is it ???
My uncle lives in Holbeach, and he might be able to pop and have a look at it for the X1/9 he bought for me :) (he owns a scrab yard as well in Holbeach St. johns next to Fenland Airfield)

I just hope this is not his scrabyard  and the X1/9 he bought for me :bang: or I will start

Please let me know of a telephone number or something, as it might be an interesting car to get hold of.... I would like some spare bits, and the black leather seats if in good condition.

Thanks,

George

It's not Holbeach, its the other side of Spalding, Selwyn Dobney's yard at Glebe Farm, Dowsby Fen, near Gosberton. Not sure what condition the interior is in, like i said it was a brief glance over it, but looked to be pretty complete. Haven't got a number for Selwyn, but if your uncle owns the Holbeah yard then he will certainly know of, if not know him anyway.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I will get in touch with my uncle and ask him to have a look at it.

Thanks again,

George

To save your uncle searching for it, there are 3 isles on the right of the yard, it is at the very far end on the right between isles 2 and 3, perched on top of another car next to the perimeter fence. You can get to it, but its awkward. If you are getting it down i would ring ahead as Selwyn will have to move about half a dozen cars to get to it. Good luck.

Just remembered, one of the alloys was on the floor, so make sure that is picked up too.

Thanks, (y)

My uncle knows the guy who owns the yard and is going over to have a look at it.

Thanks again,

George

No....
I am about to receive an X1/9, which will be sent in a container to Cyprus along with other bits and pieces.

My uncle is sending it ove for me... So he can also put the x1/9 bits in the container as well, if they are of any use to me....

So its gonna be a Cyprus not-so-much-project I Hope. (y)

thanks,

George

so do you even know what year, color, interior,13 or 1500, etc.....have you seen it? is it to-be raced/autocrossed? just curious. your uncle must rock to give you such a cool project car (even if it not ment to be a project it will be ) my project is on hold cause i broke my hip falling off a 2 story house (sux huh)....i tell the girls i wrecked my race car, so i dont sound so lame the doc says 6mo before im good:( but thats OK i have tons of stuff ready to go on it when im better. post some pics ASAP id really like to see it

Hi,

the story is that i wanted to buy an x1/9 forever...
The prices they ask for them here i Cyprus are STUPIDLY HIGH:eek:
£6.000 for a good one i was asked, although i did not see that car.
Another had one advertised in the paper for £10.000 :yuck:

And generally all the cars cost a bomb here in Cyprus, when u ask them if they will sell it to you, immediately they are the world's most valuable 'ANTIQUES'....Trust me....they havent got the concept of car price here.

Importing a car is another story. It is easier to import a car to Cyprus if u are a foreigner, and very difficult and more expensive if u are Cypriot....

So in this case, i can import a car that is classed as classic, if it is over 25 years of age...in the X1/9 case it is a 1979 1500 model, white leather interior..that's all iknow.

So i found one on ebay that was in Isle of Man, that was virtually better than new... And it was a 1982 model, which could sit in the bonded for 1 years so that it became over 25 years and could be imported-registered in Cyprus. The asking price was 2000, and for that money i can get an X1/9 wreck here in Cuprus. So i was contemplating of buying the one in Isle of Man. Unfortunately money is ALWAYS SHORT(n) , adn i had to put the plans off...my uncle -John Wright- (he is British), knew i liked the X1/9 so much. He is himself a lover and expert of old vintage-clasic cars, and he owned a lot in the past. he has been also on TV and magazines in UK for a Special he made (2 stroke 3 Cylidner 6 Piston Supercharged engine)...you might know him...

My uncle was in Cyprus then, and one week after he went back to UK my aunty rang me to say that he had bought a Fiat for me... I said what fiat ...i dont know of any fiat....and after hang up the phone it dawned to me....FIAT X1/9......I was :) :yum: :p (y)

So yeah....he is good ...(he also got me a Nash (Austin) Meteropolitan here in Cyprus that needs bodywork.....)

Cool Uncle to have... :slayer:

So i have not seen this car... from what ive been told its in medium condition, but it goes fine im told.

So i want the car to drive around and use it normally..
I dont want to race it or anything like that, but i would love to make it sound angry huffing and puffing, without making it a boy racer car....

So no fancy exhaust or such things....maybe air filters (K&N) been told that they will give it a better sound (im not worried about performance). Im also thinking of dual carbs, but im waiting to see what carbs John has and if can get hold of a decent price manifold for them...

So...it should be in the container in 2 weeks time...then another week or 2 to arrive here and then registration process...and then...SHOW OFF TIME !!!!!
Drive it down the coastal area in my town, where all the :bang: boy races take their mitsubishis and loud exhaust and honda civis etc:bang: ....Its about time they saw an :worship:  X1/9 Real Car !!!! :D .

I will post photos as soon as i have the car...

Thanks,

George

George, i was at fenland airfield at the weekend and as i went past your uncles scrap yard, guess what i saw parked outside? I assume it is 'your' X1/9. I couldn't see it close up, but it looked to be quite tidy. Definitly better than the one i saw a few weeks ago.
And if you need any parts that your uncle can't get hold of, about a mile up the road from him is a Fiat specialist breaker, and he has loads of X1/9 parts. Infact he had two complete cars on his drive. I am sure your uncle knows him, but if not then another good source of parts.

Hi Balidey,

You have actually seen the X1/9 before i see it :)

It should have been in the container and on its way to Cyprus as you are reading this...
But of course its still sitting there. HE decided at the last minute to ship a 1926 Austin Heavy 12/4 Tourer over to Cyprus.
As the contaiiner is actually intended for someone that buys spare parts in Cyprus my uncle could only put one car in and chose his own car  . :bang:

Nevermind.
I saw one X1/9 here driving around and i got realy jealous.....(y)

The guy (His name's Steve) u talk about is a friend of my uncles and i met him at a car auction , and actually supplied the previous owner of the car with parts for it.

Very small world this is afterall......

if your aim isnt performance then changing manifolds(i assume for twin carbs) is a waste of money, And on that note if you were to slap on a twin set up, other things to the motor would need changed as well. tuning is like dominos, you mess w/ one you have to mess w/ it all. if you want your car to have a throaty, and lumpy idle, & a nice bark to the exhaust, and sound racey (but not like a swarm of bee's) then you need to...(A) change filters (B) change cams (C) install stronger valve springs (D) change jets in carb (E) install a set of headers w/new muffler (F) change to a lightened fly wheel ....... this is the (right way) to get what your after, and is a great basic low budget setup that gives much needed power, and is still mild for daily use. also there is room for further tuning in the future if you so choose (bigger carbs or twins, port n' polish, larger valves, racing valve springs, switching to a 1300 cc head, etc etc........etc :) what ever mod you decide to do, just do them right, or there is no sence in doing them at all nor will the results be as you expect. for all the above your looking (w/o labor) around $750 :)
