I’m a journalist working for Practical Classics magazine, and we’re arranging a photoshoot for a number of cars at Rockingham Circuit, near Corby, in Northamptonshire on Monday, February 17th. We’re hoping to include an early Fiat Uno in the line-up. If there's anybody who might be willing to bring their car along for the day, it would be great if they could contact me. Although things are being held at a race circuit, there’s no element of racing involved, it’s simply to give us enough room to to get several cars side by side for the pictures, in a controlled environment. That said, you will be able to at least drive around a now famous banked circuit and see your car in Practical Classics! Fuel expenses will be paid and lunch will be provided (although it’s only likely to be sandwiches and soft drinks from a local shop, I’m afraid).

I appreciate this is rather short notice, but if there's anybody out there who can help us out, it would be very much appreciated. You'll need to be available for most of the day, since these shoots can sometimes take a fair amount of time, especially as other cars will be attending as well.

Many thanks in advance for any help.

What is the feature & are you looking for a particular model (3/5 door, spec, man/auto)?

When you say early, do you mean a mk1 or must it be an early mk1?

I might be able to help, but mine is a late mk1 5 door Selecta so not much use if you want to compare it to an '83 3 door XR2 for example.

Regards, Gavin.

Hi Gavin, thanks very much for your reply. A MkI of any type would be very suitable, I'm sure. If you wanted to email me on [email protected] (or let me have a good email address for yourself), I'll be able to explain more about things, as we like to keep the content of features a little quiet before publication for commercial reasons. Hope that's okay?

A Fiat 127 or 128 would also be handy for the feature as well.

Gavin -- Palio -- has a rather nice 127 Palio, as well...! (y)

I've pm'd my email to you as I'm not near a computer to email you at the moment. (y)

Yes the chances of finding a roadworthy 127 at short notice are remote, near impossible.... :chin:

Having said that, I have a couple but they are Sorned. I might be persuaded (the Palio has a sticking caliper which I'd left until Spring, but in theory Freddie the 1050CL could be an outside bet for you), but I'd have to find someone willing to drive a fair distance, in Feb, at short notice. homeward might fancy a Selecta drive I guess?

Let me know what you've got in mind, and we'll see ;)

As I got you into this mess in the first place, more than happy to.... (y)

Given my track record with Selectas, I shall have my AA card to hand, though....

PS: Just looked at the route -- 125 miles each way.... I hope those sandwiches are good.... ;)

Thanks for your PM, Gavin - I'll drop you an email now.

Thanks Homeward - just contacting Gavin more properly now.

Just wanted to say - even though I can't help - love your work, man. I subscribe to the iPad edition - it's a saviour because, otherwise in NZ, three-month-old editions pop up rarely in our bookshops and cost three times the price of any other magazine. When I travel for business, it's great having many editions on my iPad3 to read, rather than several kilos of magazines.

Are you the Richard that was trying to decide whether to sell your Vitesse?
Good luck with making that decision! :)

Thanks Alex. I'm not actually that Richard (I think it's Richard Dredge you're thinking of), but that you like PC enough to subscribe all the way out there in New Zealand is much appreciated. Good feedback means a lot to the whole team. My recent articles in the current issue are on the DAF 46 and Bedford van at the Vauxhall Heritage Centre.

Cheers,
Richard

:doh:Don't break the Selecta!!! :nono:

I'm waiting to hear if PC would like both in an ideal world, then I'll see if you're still able to be persuaded! As you know my geography isn't brilliant, but if you were to have the Uno already does that cut down your distance on that day? I'm guessing it would be easier for you to go up/across than down to me first - no reason we couldn't get the Uno to you a couple of days before (using a cunning plan involving dressing gowns & turnips maybe? :D ) if that helped

That sounds very sensible...! Anything that breaks the journeys (but not the Uno, I promise...) up into smaller chunks is fine by me.... (y)

If you're nice to me, I may even clean and polish it, too...! :D

Shame we haven't got a teleporter... -- although we do seem to be good at improbability...! :)

Hope this went well... -- not brilliant weather, though....

Sorry for the delay in updating!

The shoot went very well, and it was good to meet Richard and the PC crew - some of whom I'd met before. Wedgeman007 thanks for arranging this, and sorry to have snuffled around with my bug - I've added you to the comp list for our Club magazine by the way, in case you wonder where it's come from!

I'll let everyone know when the article comes out. It will be interesting to see what the comments are - I think Freddie the 127 made a few friends on the day. (y)

I actually didn't feel too bad during the day, but clearly did too much as my bug reinvigorated itself the next day.... (n)

Good to meet you too, Gavin, and I think everybody there fell in love with your Fiat 127. Thank you so much for bringing it along. I'll look forward to receiving the club magazine too.

I can assure you the comments will be very positive on the 127. Unlike the Renault 9... ;-)

Hope you're feeling a bit better now too, and sorry for making yo stand out in the cold and rain at Rockingham for so long.

Cheers,
Richard

No problem, and thanks for the kind comments. (y)

No one actually made me go and stand in the cold - I'm (theoretically) an adult, so only have myself to blame! I could have cowered in the warm drinking coffee, but that's no fun!! :)
