ohh i love it when its the new (diesel) vs the old(petrol)battle,all i can say is 1,000 pounds for a 205 bhp 12 year old punto or 8,000 pounds for a new diesel,i know where my money goes and it has for 3 good years now,and oooh! this is the killer 7,500 rpm youll not see that in a diesel!not a punto anyway.

Whats your MPG like? Or reliability?

At least my £8k wont be found on the back of an AA truck every 5 days.....
