I've been playing with an older version of windows 8. It's defo worth using it at a res of 1024x768 min, you miss loads of menu options and features in anything lower.

Single touch works for menu and gestures, overall the touch interface takes some getting used to.

Anyone whose monitor can't support at least 1024x768 must be in serious need of an upgrade and really shouldn't be running 7, let alone 8!

i was going to install windows 8 to my notebook but its such an old machine i doubt the geforce go 440 would run it its the only short full on an amazing laptop

Has anyone set it up a dual boot with 7/Vista the main OS and 8 on a partition?

Ive been trying for a while and Windows 8 just wants to remove 7 from my C:\ drive and fresh install :bang:

The version of 8 beta I had, I simply clicked through the menu to just install it as quickly as possible (had to do 5 in work very quickly) it kept the windows 7 and android installs. I didn't select any disk options just clicked on install it warned me a previous version of windows existed and that it would be saved but not functional in c:\windows_old it lied it still works LOL

decided to put in my old black 120gb HDD and do a fresh install. currently writing this using Windows 8

its recognising this and W7 & Unbuntu on my other hard drive when I plugged that in on start up too.. so at the moment W8 is my Primary System too

I don't bother with multi boot. I have an ATA caddy and change hard drives when another operating system is prefered. Two 1TB mirrored HDs store most of the other stuff. +, If any thing happens and the system won't boot I just change the disc.

You're not missing much.

But your problem seems to be either with your drive or your dvd's. You can try selecting a lower speed such as 4x or 8x which should make it more reliable.

i got 5 dead dvds now, i tried different speeds lat night it still kept happening, so i downloaded it again and tried again today

using asda dvds from same pack ive had for ages, never had a problem before, could it be a bit of dust in the drive?

Possibly, can get cleaning CD's.

It 'could' also mean you power supply is struggling.

Try Sony discs, I've had loads of problems in the past with supermarket cheap discs but Sony variants which are still cheap just seem to be more reliable

i'll pop to poundland for a cleaning disc and get a named brand dvd from some where later then.
i think have high power psu i think it was 750w cant find my build thread

It 'should' be enough however PSU's do loose output their maximum output and stability as they get older. I tested one that was heavily used for 4 years and it had lost 40% of its capacity.

poundland didnt have no cleaning discs, 99p shop had kodak blank dvds in packs of 4 though are they any good?
