Technical Whirring/clicking noise and power steering failure

My 2013 Punto 1.2L started to make a whirring/clicking noise from the dash area and then the power steering fails and warning light comes on. I haven't read any codes yet as I'm at work but anyone any past experiences/remedies of this?

When I do a scan, should that tell me if it is just the sensor or all the unit?

I have the multiescuscan stuff. Are the sensors a nightmare to change?

Hi varescrazy,
The fault code on MES said.
C1002-17-Steering column motor torque Voltage too high Intermittent
Recommended checking wires etc etc.

Battery voltage stated by MES was 14.074 V

So, is this a possible one off or is it something whats on it's way out or who knows ...... it's a fiat ????

PS. MES brilliant. if anyone in East Yorkshire needs it. I'm in Hull and don't mind a drive for a fellow Fiat owner.

Only concern would be voltage regulator on the Alternator..

Can fry batteries.. Boiling off fluid

I knew there was something else to do. Go and get my voltage meter. Do i need to rev it whist checking for the spikes?
