I have a 2016 fiat 500x . The warning light : service keyless entry system has activated. Does anyone have experience with this warning? What service is required? What is the problem or fix? Any input would be appreciated.

Might be worth:

1) putting new battery in key
2) clean the inside/back side of both the driver's and passenger's door handles. It is possible that a build of of dirt is signalling to the keyless system that there is a hand present but no other action like a door pull / opening
3) get a code reading done (assuming there is one)

thank you for your reply. I have replaced and changed the batteries in the key fobs. I will clean the door handles. The dealership said that it is a hard fault and not able to erase the message/warning from the dash. The fiat dealer wants to complete a diagnosis which can take up to 2-hour labour. They said the result might be the module which will cost less than $400. The keyless entry system is working just fine, but the warning light/message has appeared.

Out of general Interest for 500X owners with a more tecnical bias :) It often helps to now how a system works and where the major compoents are even if you are not able to work on the system yourself. Least when a garage/dealer starts rambling on you know what they are talking about, or even if they know what they are talking about!

Hi,
Have you managed to find any solutions? I am having the same problem.
The message won’t go away but everything seems to be working fine.
Had a test run and the error code has come up but I’ve tried one garage they didn’t understand what it meant.

I have the exact same car, same issue, came up at about the same time (in the past few weeks)! My local shop.. not a FIAT specialist but they've worked on my car effectively before.... says minimum $175 diagnostic charge to see what's up. Did you do the "code reading"? I don't even know what that is, but will research it.

This is way above my head, but I learned something I think. Thank you!

My FIAT service centre in Vancouver, Canada replaced the RFHub radio frequency hub module. The shop discovered water leaking into the RFhub which caused the malfunction. I understand the RFhub is located on the driver's rear quarter panel of the vehicle. they also replaced the passive entry module. They repaired the water leak. Everything now works correctly but after spending almost $1,000 Canadian. They also had to reprogram the two keys.

Thanks for your reply. Not what I wanted to hear ($1000!), but it's good to know you got it fixed. The FIAT service center in Portland (OR) wanted me to leave it for up to a week for their dx and fix. I would have to pay for a rental car. I'll share with my local mechanics what you learned. They thought they could figure it out in a day.🤞
