Hi,

899 Cinq

There's clean looking oil collecting round the gearbox drain plug.
It seems to be coming from behind, the CV boot. (towards rear of vehicle)

There also seems to be oil coming from the gear selector on top of the g/box.

This puzzles me, but I think at the moment, that this is the oil that's collecting at the bottom of the box.

The rocker cover gasket's new, and I've put a new clamp on the CV boot, so I'm confused about the source.

Another thread suggests an O ring where the ignition coils mount to the head.

However, the Haynes looks to just show the OHC engine, and not the 899.

I did the head gasket a couple of years ago, and don't remember an O ring on the coil pack assembly.

Can anyone confirm if the 899's got an O ring here, and if it's likely to be the source of the oil, and not the g/box?

Cheers, Pete

It seems a bit clean for engine oil.

But I'm not sure it smells like g/box oil.

Visually it looks to be coming from the gear selector, but that's way above the fill level.

So, dunno.

Cheers

Thanks for reading, and replying.

Oily deposit on top of g/box is condensate from formerly leaking rocker gasket.

Finally had a proper look at problem, and the speedo cable looks to be loose and oily, above the CV boot.

The man who fitted the new clutch mustn't have tightened it properly.

Whew.
