Technical Twinair intercooler

So this is the turbo intercooler? How can I tell whether it is leaking? I’m not really familiar with them. Do the pipes contain coolant or are they just air pipes?

The side of it is a bit dented and I don’t want to replace it if unnecessary.

Just air cooled unless it has coolent pipes too "charge cooler" not many ways of testing without pressurising it ie take it off bung one end and use another bung and a pump in a bucket of water?

I think I’ll take a chance as it’s only the outer side which is a bit dented. Thanks

There’s one on eBay for £30 so I’m going to have another look tomorrow and might just get one.

Yup, thats an air to air intercooler.

Thank you thought as much. I’ve had another look at it this morning and it seems ok so I’m going to take a chance. It’s easy enough to change if there is a problem when I’ve got it all back together.

Can't you block ends and put under water?

Can't see to clearly by that pic, but if there is a leak anywhere in the system after the turbo, you often hear a "whoosh" or "pisst" at high boost.

If it were a diesel it would smoke up a fair bit under load, but a petrol will more than likely soot it's plugs up and perhaps, if it's leaking enough, sent the O2 sensor up the wall.
