General Some questions about OIL

Hi there...
I'm new to taking care of my car myself, so I have some questions.

What motor oil do you guys recommend for a MK1 with 200.000 km (ca. 124000 miles).

I guess I should go for min. 15w/40 maybe even 20w/40?
Is there a special brand I should go for, or just take the cheapest I can find?

I know where to fill the OIL on, but I cant get the rubber thing off :-/

I'm running 10w40 no problem, rubber thing takes some fighting and will probably go flying off the first time you persuade it out of it's hole!

Are you just topping up or are you changing the oil?

If its been around 12 months or 12000 miles ago when it was last changed or if you do alot of short journeys or the oil is black on the dip stick. Its advisable to change it for fresh.

i'd use 10w-40 synthetic or semi synthetic
