General silly name ?

does anyone else think Grande Punto is a bit of a silly name.. imo just calling it the Punto would've been fine.

It's not that silly, it's bigger and the name can be shortened to G Punto, or if you really want, just Punto

Im with Arc, its a silly name.

All this 'we can call it...' is irrelevant, Mk3 punto is what fiat should have called it from the off.

Renault has 2 Scenic's in their current line up, Scenic and Grand Scenic(slightly longer and more space inside), as they sell along side each other, the Grand is used for the bigger version. As fiat still has the 'old' punto available until the end of '06, will the 'Grande' be dropped next year?

even punto is a silly name! it means "point" or "dot" or something

so Grande Punto means "Big Dot"

The recent Autocar road test just referred to it as the Punto (no mention of 'Grande' anywhere), so I suspect that the Grande bit will be quietly dropped when the 'old' Punto ceases production. (Unless the name remains popular.)

Another interesting point: the in-car stereo is made by Blaupunkt which is German for......Blue dot!

Well puntos are called puntos allegedly because when Tipo's were launched the badge read "Tipo." note the full stop. It was to be pronounced 'tipo-punto' but none of the motoring journalists said the punto bit, and the car became known as the 'Tipo'

Their next car was develpoed under the codename 'Tipo B' and to get one over on the journalists they called it the punto

Oh yes they have ways of making you say the punto bit!
