Technical Screeching type noise

Hi. Anyone know what this is? Has done it a few times lately but usually just after I set off. This time did it immediately from starting up. It fades off after a few minutes. There was also a slight smell the last time it did it. Hard to tell what, maybe a bit of a water radiator type smell!! The whiny screech increased when accelerating.

I had the same thing a few years back. In my case, it was the alternator failing and I ignored it for a while then it died on the way to a garage. Probably just the bearings worn out but I had a whole new alternator replaced. If the smell is like burning rubber then it could be the drive belt slipping on the altnerator pulley and perhaps just re-tensioning the belt will solve the issue

Does sound like alternator or AC (if you have one)
