Right, ive just installed a new cd player to replace the ****ty tape player my girlf has been using for the last 5 years, can you understand the frustration of borrowing her car!. i ripped out the tap unit at xmas and have only just figured out how to get the cd player working without draining the battery. (i dead battery later
)
I think she has a mk2 punto.. but im no expert on this.
Heres how i did it,
I used a multimeter to find out there was no fookin ignition feed on the hookup. so i took a feed of the cig light and patched it into my the ignition pin on my stereo. my/her stereo had a nice picture on the back showing my what wires did what. I scotch locked a wire from the cig lighter socket. I removed it via a guide on this website (theres big list of guides somewere)
try this

Basically there are 4 four allen key screws that need removing, two either side of the air vents down in the foot well, and two in the little tray thing under the heater controls. that done, i gave it a bit a tug to get it past the gear stick and the panel fell off. Theres a little catch on the plug for the lighter that you press and the wire pops out. i tested them all (using the black ground on the headunit lead) and found the middle wire as the ignition live wire, so i scotch locked another wire to it, fed it through the dash and scotch locked it to the ignition feed into the stereo. And voila! my first successful car hack!
i was new to the old scotch locks, so i bought ten of the fookers for 2 squid off ebay, and i now fooken love them!!
now my problem (and maybe yours) is to get the little door speakers (the other side of the wing mirrors) linked up?? maybe more scotch locking is required.
