Just picked up an elderly Stilo.
This forum has already helped me solve the continual beeping lights warning (bad earth connection) Thanks for that!
I have two issues left to sort. It came with two keys, but the remote one didn't have a battery. Fitted one but it won't re-synch with the car, all other cars I have had do this if you operate the key in the ignition. It appears to be the original key (it is very worn, starts the car and fits the locks) so it
should be paired already and just be out of step with the code hopping (I hope).
I am finding lots of advice on here but it all seems to be for programming new keys.
Is there a simple way to get it in synch?
I have another issue, but to help keep things straight I'll start a second thread, hope that's OK.
Thanks
Neil (Stub)
Hi Neil,
congrats on your
new Stilo. I hope you're enjoying it.
It's a rather bizzare quirk of the Stilo that just occassionally, not very often mind, they will drop the coding on the remotes.
Completely at random, for no reason too.
I for example arrived home in my Abarth one day, pressed the lock button on the remote to lock my car, the doors locked. Pressed the button almost immediately a second time for the dead locks to activate, nothing. The remote, in that split instant, have dropped it's sync. Gone. Just like that.
So anyway, it happens.
People talk about recoding the key albeit you're right they key is two fundamental parts in one plastic box. It contains the immobiliser chip and the remote control circuit. They're two separate pieces within the key body.
There is no end-user (i.e. the dude that owns the car) way of re-syncing the remotes. Fiat didn't allow it.
You can do it yourself though; but you're going to need some slightly specialist tools.
You are going to need a laptop, a full licence version of a piece of software called
MultiECUScan (Fiat / Alfa / Lancia specific diag software), a correctly modified ELM cable (available off eBay) to work with
MultiECUScan and you're going to need the security key code for your vehicle.
Software is available from
www.multiecuscan.net They do a free and a licenced version. The free version has limited functions and key programming is only available via the licenced software.
Modified cables are available from eBay,
here
The security code is only available from a Fiat dealer. You'll need to take your V5, some proof of ID and proof of address with you. They can get the code immediately as a download from the central store - as all codes are held by Retainer Group.
With all of these parts together you can then relearn the remote control programming.
You have to have all remotes present and reprogram them all. It's an all or nothing. Any remote you don't reprogram gets barred by the ECU, so you can't use it again.
Essentially with the ignition on, run the remote programming sequence in the software. It'll ask you to press any button on the remote. Press it and it'll tell you it's found it and ask you to move on to the next key. You then have to press a button on the next key. And so on up to 8 remotes i think you can have.
Again; any previously learned remotes that you don't program will get barred by the ECU and cannot be used with the car ever again. So you must reprogram all remotes at the same time, even remotes that were still working.
You can buy used / second hand keys off eBay for example and program those remotes to your car if you wanted additional remotes. This is for remotes only. There is a different programming routine to run to program the immobilizer if you wanted to program a new key to start the car too - uses the same tools and security code as the remote programming.
