will a mk2 alternator fit in the punto 60 sx ?? as i need a new 1

i dont know if the mk2 alternator will fit a mk1 but i know you can get a NEW alternator for the mk1 for £103 from eurocarparts..

mk2 alternator are more expensive than the mk1 as they need to produce more power.
alternativly you could look for a second hand one, ebay or a breakers yard would be a good starting place.
One more thing to try is to walk into a main dealer to have a look at their part exchanges that they want to get rid of. you might find that they'll sell you parts of one of these cars for cheep.

He's asking because I offered him a mk2 alternator from a w reg for £15

Only concern with the mk2 alternator is that its deisgned to produce more power as the mk2 car uses more. it might work in a mk1 but you'd need to watch out for any eletrical burning smells.
worse cases if it's not a part that can be swapped between mk1 & mk2 are:
1. blow a fuse when using it
2. blow battery
3. slower perforance from engine
4. burning / melting of eletrical wires to/from alternator.
5. extra static charge on the car.
i've only have swapped an alternator for '91 panda from a ford something and found that it worked at first but burnt out after 2~3 weeks.
please correct me if im wrong about any of this, i only have 1 exp to go on.
