Hi All, 1996 1.9td ducato. on trying to start get chattering noise coming from near side area.. engine doesn't turn over. any thoughts please. All the Best Ian

thanks jackwhoo, remembered trick of putting a jump lead between neg terminal and engine. started first time therefore bad earth. cleaned all earth connections. job done. thanks again, Ian.

Even better as that didn't cost you anything (-:
Good to be reminded of jump lead test.

As suggested by jackwhoo, a faulty battery. If this proves not to be tha cause, consider the possibility of a relatively high resistance in the starter solenoid supply. This high resistance could be due to faulty ignition switch contacts, or a wiring/connector fault. Also consider poor battery connections, including the earth connection.
