Just to warn you guys who are in the middle of sorting out insurance. I took out a policy with Performance Direct yesterday after finding they came out near the top on comparison websites. After going through all the details online I then had to do it again with someone on the phone. We agreed a price and she took my credit card details and took the money. She told me someone would have to call me again that evening from their legal team to confirm the details - although why I'm not sure as I'd already given them all the info twice, once on line and once to her!
Later that evening someone called Ian phoned and went through every single detail with me yet again and then said a price which was £20 more than I remembered. I didn't have the paperwork to hand and asked if he was sure that was correct and he said yes, that is what I had agreed to on the phone earlier, he could see that from the records that was what had been taken from my card. The more I thought about it the more I was sure he had put the price up. I rang them back this morning and I was right. I spoke to someone else and she confirmed that Ian had taken a further amount of nearly £20 from my card, she tried to tell me he had done it by mistake, but i pointed out that he had misled me and told me I had already agreed to the amount and it had already been taken from my card earlier which was a blatent lie! She agreed to refund the extra amount (very good of them!) and said a manager would speak to Ian.
I am now waiting for the paperwork to see if I can cancel the policy without incurring some ridiculous admin fee, but would recommend that anyone else avoid this company. I don't mind an honest mistake but this was an obvious ploy to make an extra £20 by misleading me.
