Technical PAS Issue

Just seen an old thread. They had a different bloody ecu!! How annoying.
Can the motor pinion be removed from the column or how easy is the pas dash light to remove?
What's better; unplug the column or remove the fuse?
Cheerz ma dearz

Ok, I've decided to change the shock castor plates and run my car without PAS.
What's the best way to turn it off?
Plug on the unit or a fuse.
Also, is the 'steering wheel' warning bulb fairly easy to remove?

I imagine it will be an LED on a Seicento gauges but I'm not sure. Might be easier to block behind the cluster face with black tape or something.

Regarding disconnecting the air bag - this should be fine as long as the battery is disconnected first and make sure the air bag is plugged in again before you reconnect the battery.

The power steering on my Sei sporting decided to stop working for one journey - and it was VERY heavy. Not like the non PAS Cinqs I've had at all. Will be great to know there is a way to deactivate the PAS though - if it works.

I imagine the motor will be permanently connected to the column so i wonder if this would have to be removed to make it lighter?

I might be going down this route, I'd definitely change the whole column over instead of removing the motor as it would be very difficult to get the motor off without taking the column out anyway.

The job that's putting me off is changing the rack.
