Hi, I am new to the forum and thought I would see if anyone had any ideas about a problem we are having with our 2008 Panda multijet. It starts ok most of the time when cold but after it has been driven for sometime if we stop somewhere then go to to drive it again it can take several atemps to start it again and if it has been driven a while, it will not start until it has cooled down. When it plays up like this all the dash lights come on as normal in the mar postion but when you turn the key to the stat position, nothing happens. If you are lucky trying a few times can get it to start and it always starts first time if the starter motor engages. It is now getting worse so we will have get something done about it. Anyone got any ideas what it could be?

Is the immobiliser disengaging properly? Have you tried your other key with it?

Same symptoms as our MJ when the starter motor packed up - the wire between the starter solenoid and motor corroded through. It goes against logic (at least my logic) but it always needed frequent attempts to get it to turn when warm - turned almost as normal when cold when I'd presume it would need more amps

If you're able to get under the car, you can see the starter and check the cable - ours was crumbly and green mouldy.

I had a 1985 Ford Escort a long time ago that had the same problem. It was a bad connection somewhere in the wire between ignition switch and starter solenoid. Check the thinnest wire from the starter and work your way back. It may show 12v when tested, but that doesn't mean there's enough current on it to engage the solenoid. Check all the connections and wire condition.

Think I read about this somewhere else, water drains from the scuttle panel via a rubber drain, one to each side, one side runs down the back of the engine causing a few issues.

Also the MJ has a issue with water dripping off the scuttle panel via a screw hole in the centre of the scuttle and getting into the airbox, soaking the air filter and drawing water into the engine.
