Punto (Mk2/2b) new with stange varity of faults

I haven't driven my Mk2 for a while now so I wouldn't be able to say for sure but it doesn't sound like it should do that anyway. On my Grande Punto it just stays as it is until it starts warming up and then goes half way gradually

Presuming the Mk2 and Mk2b act the same -- and never having encountered a temperature gauge that does anything different... -- my Mk2 does pretty much what RaulCarnahan describes, too....

thanks lads sounds like its guna need a temp sensor and starter relay however im led to believe no warnings lights have came back

make sure you have a good engine earth strap a dodgy earth can stop the starter motor working properly and give sensor faults especially like with the coolant temp sensor which grounds off the block

all earth wires seem to be fine unless ive missed one thanks

Dunno how you checked them. Physically remove each one you can find, scratch clean, apply silicon grease (vaseline will do) and re-attach. Just looking seldom works.
