hi guys, looking at buying a coupe as it works out cheaper to insure than my current seicento  just after some tips when buying a coupe, i know the cambelt is a expensive job so ive got to look out for that being changed, but what are other little niggles to watch out for?

cheers!

ally :)

including the cambelt, the usual waterpump which is very important, good condition coolant hoses, otherwise its CHOD(coolant hose of death), the pipes that come from inside the car at the back of the engine bay, you can buy some kits which vary from £180+. is it the turbo coupe or no turbo ? if you are looking to buy the turbo model, as normal on a turbo car check to see if its been replaced or of course well looked after.

the standard manifolds on the 5 cylinder, presuming its the 5 cylinder youll be buying, they crack due to the design of the 5th exhaust port. its also a good thing to get one with a new clutch, as this can cost about £500+ from a specialist to replace.

i dont think ive covered everything here, but check out http://www.fccuk.org/forum, im sure theres a ton more information on there.

theres alot of dogs out there, so try to avoid those coupes, personally id have a budget of £2000 for a standard coupe, specially if all the important jobs are done.

What Coop are you looking at. The 20vt is still Fiats fastest to date although an oldy. Pound for buck you can't do better in the thrills department......"but" they need looking after & although compared to your general wee hack, the cost can be more than some will be willing to pay. A well set up Coop is a joy to drive. I look at it this way, you can still have the thrills as much more expensive marks.

They're not that easy to work on for the main jobs. Even the simplest tasks can be perplexing at times. The five pot rumble/growel makes up for a lot.:D
