Hi, ive just bought a mk1 punto sporting, a `97 16v. Ive noticed that when the clutch pedal is pressed to the floor, it meets a tight spot, then frees up again, almost like a cable passing through a bulkhead without a grommet.

Im aware the car has hydraulic clutch, but looking at the eper it seems to have a short cable assembly from the pedal, and a spring. Are these the areas to look at, or is this fault common to some other part?

Thanks, Lee

Some clutches have a definite bind point, where you over-centre the finger springs on the pressure plate.

Have a look at the wire where it goes through the bulkhead, and check the pedal isn't being obstructed by carpet or similar.

98K miles, no idea when it was last changed, as theres no history. Fitted clutch must be around £250?

your price is right, it probably needs anew clutch because the bearing has probably worn away the fingers on the clutch pressure plate. Very common especially if it's the original clutch.
