Life of petrol.....

Just got back from the unfortunate experience of having to sit through -and stay awake - the "Book of Eli" - well, the tickets where free but it made me ponder, all these "after the epocolypse/bomb/tsunami/comet strike/ice age/motherofallwars/survivalist" films seem to have folk tearing about in cars, vans, lorries and especially, motorbikes some thirty odd years after the civilisation destroying event. Umm....where do they get the petrol? Doesn't the stuff just deteriorate beyond any viable use after about a year? Max?
Let's not go into the clothing and boots, OK, that could come from warehouses, but they also always have automatic weapons, shotguns, handguns and plenty of ammunition. But that's another story

petrol in genny at work lasts about 1 month in can about 3 months
also the batteries normally work

In none air tight containers Petrol will start to go funny after 3 months and in air tight 6 months. So I remember reading somewhere anyways.

But not sure what happens to it.

One of the Panda's has fuel in from 2007 on Drive and no starting issues etc.
