Technical How many valves to I have?

Ive currently got a GP 1.9 130BHP Sporting.

Ive seen sites talk about a 8v 1.9 and also a 16v 1.9

Is there an easy way to tell what mine is?

1.9 8v turbo = mjet

1.4 16v turbo = tjet

1.4 16v NA = Starjet

1.2/4 8v = lol

As said you only have 8. The 16v version you have read about is the Astra 1.9cdti 16v 150bhp.

Yeah they are all 8v in derv form.

It's not really an issue, is it?

It's more the people who don't know what engine size they have or if it's petrol or diesel I really worry about.

True, but when I buy a car, I want to know everything about it?

Yes, but you aren't the OP.

I suppose it only really matters in terms of insurance if there are two models with the same engine, i.e the 1.4 8/16v but otherwise meh.

p.s I too like to find out everything before I buy a car as well. Maybe we're just anal.

I bought a 1.3 90 BHP which I test drove and liked.

I then passed that onto the missus and purchased a 1.9 130BHP which again I test drove and liked.

Researched everything else, but didnt even think about the valves, and TBH im not overly bothered as we both love our GP's - I was just curious.

Its in an awfull lot more than just the astra. Saabs, Alfas, Fiats, lancias and Chryslers to name a few.

Funny thing is- if you remove the plastic engine cover, you'll see the FPT (Fiat PowerTrains) logo cast into the top of the head.

The very early 2005ish astra/vectra 1.9cdti's 120bhp were also in fact 16v's, though only for a year or so.
