Hi

I hit a pothole with a mighty thump and I am now getting a grinding noise. It seems to be only when I brake and only when the car slows right down before stopping. In saying that, once the noise carried on when I started driving but this does not happen every time.

I have just had top suspension bearings renewed and a broken road spring so I am hoping it is nothing major as the car is starting to cost too much.

Any ideas?

How confident are you that the noise started after hitting the pot hole.?
I get this all the time at work, where something only happened after another event.
eg, The kettle won't boil after changing the door handle on the kitchen door.

It may just be coincidental.

I'd start by checking the brakes, particularly the condition of the pads.
Or the possibility that the caliper may have picked a stone up.

There's a thin heat shield behind the brake disc that often gets bent, check that isn't rubbing.

Did u find what the problem was here? I'm having the same issue & goes away for a bit if I turn right then when I brake again it's back..

Maybe a wheel bearing that was on the way out and the pothole has seen it off? Also (long shot) a detached friction lining on one of the brake pads?
