I have a Grande Punto 1.4 8v sporting 4 years old done 18K miles. The car has been out of action for two weeks now with gear selection failure due to selespeed hydraulic pump not primeing when drivers door is opened. I was not sure as to the cause so I checked out everything practical and have now discovered that the pump gets a 12v supply when the door is opened but does not run so i guess the pump is shot unless anyone has any different ideas.
Is it practical to replace the pump oneself or is it a dealership job? I enquired with a local dealership and they told me a story that the whole of the selespeed equipment would have to be replaced includeing actuators etc which sounds to me like a rip off. Anyone got ant advice on the best way forward on this?
Thanks
