Panda (Classic) Engelbert the H reg Dark Green Sisley Progress Log

Introduction

https://www.fiatforum.com/panda-cla...ng-h-reg-sisley-needs-home-5.html#post3514984

So today I took delivery of the above mentioned Sisley, who I have decided to name Engelbert after the last 3 letters of his numberplate (I always name my cars in this way). All is explained as to how he came to be in my possession from the above thread so I wont touch on that too much here but will say the seller is a very kind lady. She was understanding about the transport frustrations I had and was very honest about the condition of the car.

This first post is going to be very pic heavy by the way!! I got it and did a quick assessment (I will do a more in depth assessment tomorrow) but I am extremely pleased with the condition generally, it obviously will need work but I am prepared for this (hence the project log). It has every sisley extra apart from the grille badge and is missing two centrecaps and the horn push (I am not counting the compass in this), though I wasnt expecting there to be as much of the sisley trim etc as there is! I am in the process of compiling a list of required items too.

Required Items/work required

Side repeater indicator
Front part of Airbox assembly (or new clips)
two sisley centrecaps
Front grille sisley badge
Instrument surround (See photo)
possibly bonnet vent (there is a small crack in this but I actually dont think it matters too much)
Possibly new bonnet or just work to the bonnet
Rubber headlamp rear cover
Rubber boot seal
Refurbish wheels and new tyres
Sisley Horn Push
New Battery
Aerial
Wiring repairs (wiring next to battery at least)
Repair front seat fabric
Under bonnet screwdriver
wirebrushing and undersealing, possible welding at points
Front bullbars
rear bullbars Palio I havent forgotten about this, but will wait till funds are more available if thats cool?
Obviously a stripdown and recommissioning generally of the engine is required as it hasnt run in 4-5 years

The general condition is pretty good indeed, though some rust curing and prevention will obviously have to be done. But I gave it a quick clean and it has come up very nicely, I am struggling for things to say about it as I have so much swimming in my head at the moment with it, im overwhelmed, need to sleep to digest it all! I will let the pictures and videos do the talking (still need to upload videos)
Looks great, I do like undersea applied with a Schultz gun. What still needs doing before the MOT apart from the speedo cable.

It needs the heater box and radiator fitted, the brakes sorted out and I reckon that's it for mandatory stuff. The gearstick is chronically wobbly and I have new bushes to put on which should hopefully cure that.

yeah, its quite easy.. for the clocls side:
take the battery out, and behind the sound proofing is where it goes through a hole to get to the clocks. theres a rubber boot thingy.. just pull the boot back and you will see the back of the clocks.
to get the cable off the clocks pull the white outer collar away from the clocks and the whole thing should pull out of the clocks. when looking at what the speedo cable came off, you should see a small square hole. if not my guess is that the cable has snapped and is stuck in the end. it will be a small white bit of plastic if so.. just pull it out.

gearbox side, you may be able to get it out by hand. it just unscrews from the gearbox.
if that fails, you'll have to get in to it with some pipe grips or pointed mould grips to unscrew it.

Brill mate, sounds nice and easy! Think I have found a suitable spare on ricambio as well.

when you route it, make sure it has no sharp turns as it causes the inner cable to ware out faster. long sweeping turns is the best way!

also for what it takes, even though it may be new i would still add a load more grease to it.
on the end that plugs into the clocks, pull the square white centre out all the way.. the whole of the inner cable will come out. you can then fill the outer white plastic thing full of grease and then feed the inner back into the cable again, making sure that it takes the new grease in with it.
it also helps stop the waving speedo thingy you seem to get sometimes.

im all for making things last longer!

Can I send you the link to the cable for you to confirm that it's the right one if its not an inconvenience?

You're absolutely wrong mate!!!

It is nearly finished, just have a look on the inital photos! You're doing grat job mate.

Will sail thru the MOT, looking forward to parl my green sisley next to this one.

Thanks man, really I needed to hear that, and I had a look at the first photos today, I didn't realise just how far its come.

My plan is to come to a Yorkshire weekend this year all being well, so I am sure we can compare then! :)

So here is what is still required as a bare minimum for driveability and ultimately an MOT:

Complete Brakes overhaul (got all parts on order, seems to have been completely dry of brake fluid for some time)
Gear linkage bushes replacement (got bushes)
Front wiper motor bolt conversion and cinq arm etc

And as far as bare minimum goes, I think that's it.

yeah its very near! the breaking system could take but a day to do. are you replacing everything but the callipers and rear brake valve thingy (lives next to the master cylinder)
all pipes being done?

i must admit that i found doing the brake lines on fallout quite relaxing. those cheap flaring tools work quite well. just don't forget to put the union on the pipe.. before you flare it!

i still have no replacement motors / linkages or any other wiper bits. :(
theres not been a cinq in our local scrap yard for almost 5 months now.
theres a Sei in though... not sure if the wipers are the same though. ill have to look but as i remember they take ones that look like the punto type.. wont fit the panda sadly.

I can send you the parts I have again if that would be acceptable?

Yes everything but the calipers as you say :) it has been dry of brake fluid.
