My partner has a 57 plate 1.2 Dynamic 360 with 42000 miles and in the last few weeks a groaning rumbling sound has appeared. At first i thought it might be a wheel bearing but the noise is always there whether driving straight or on corners. The sound increases with speed and will make the same noise whether in gear or free wheeling. Difficult to tell where exactly where it is coming from.
It passed the MOT last week with only one advisory of slight play in a drop link joint, very much doubt that would be the problem.
Anyway the car is still under warranty until mid July so she took it to Arnold Clark's to have it looked at. They checked it over and road tested it and said it sounds like a gearbox fault. It goes into gear no problem and all gear changes are smooth. It is booked in next Monday to get the gearbox removed and if it is found not to be faulty she has to pay £312 in labour charges So there is a possibility of forking out all that money and still be no further forward. Why would they not check driveshafts, CV joints, transmission bearings first instead of taking out the gearbox. Sounds slightly iffy to me and the usual giving a lone female a load of bull.
Anyone any idea what it might be, difficult i know without hearing it but have there been reports of similar things happening to Panda's.
