taking delivery of a 1991 750L, hopefully it wont need more than a service. will post some pictures when it arrives.

Looks good, love the traditional hammerite up to the crease look, haven't seen that for a while with all these purists getting in on the act.

I might also clean out the carb, there looks like oil in the upper part. is this normal?
It's probably coming up through the breather pipe. Check the pipe to see if it has a flame trap in it (twirly wire gauze).

I did a little bit of work last night. first thing i notice is water lying in the back. i have the boot liner and rear seat out and have water gathering below the seat. the window seals look ok, can water get in on the seams in the roof. i dont think this is a regular fault, may just be they way the car is positions. the interior is dry and its been sitting idle for a few months, so if its been happening regular it would smell.
any ideas
Some progress this weekend, but a few issues.
I have the car running, i have new points on order but set the points using a dwell function i have on my multimeter, first time i've done this.
I have a holey exhaust, i have a rear section on order, but its the front section that is blown.
I also have brake hoses on order, so decided to clean up around the brakes, they are binding at the moment. so i've only gone and shear the bleed nipple of. any ideas how to remove this. brake hoses were also difficult to remove, particularly at the hose and pipe connection. the brake protection plates are badly corroded but not sure if i should just ditch these, they look a pita to remove/replace.
i also need to think ahead to tyres, they are currently 135/13, i got a set of decent 155/80 13 tyres with the car but i think these will be too big circumference. having a look around there doesnt seem to be a lot of options for 13" tyres, so is it worth going to 14"? what are you all using?
