I only had the bottom end of the engine was searching for a head but my clutch ent so we just decided to put it in while we had the gear box out anyway!

Wouldnt of been able to use the head anyway as it has no mount for the cam drive sensor which would mean the engine managment light would be on all the time!

I was refering to the not being a diesel fact, my passat weighs 1100kgs so there is no way a golf weighs more then that (mine is a sw), also the GTI is a 2.0 16V and it's not a turbo. MK4's in general are crap unless that happens to be a GOLF R32 or something like that.

wrong in the uk the golf gti was offered as both 2L 16v 120bhp and 1.8T in 150bhp with the colour of the "i" in gti giving it away which was which and a mk3 golf gti is 1198kgs and an R32 is 1360kgs just heavier than my integrale at 1300kgs, therefore without checking i'm v.confident that a mk4 gti is at least 1200kgs. as an aside a mk2 golf was heavier than the mk2 jetta which is why if you check the performance of both the jetta is slightly quicker making it a sleeper.

A renault 5 gt turbo is considered a fly weight and its 830kgs, a escort rs turbo 950 and they are old cars now.

cars in general are getting heavier all the time the new subarus are over 150kgs heavier than the original 2L turbo's as all the rally cars lfrom the early 90's like the ford cosworths 4wd, subaru, integrale, celica gt4, sunny gtir are all roughly 1250-1350kgs, the new ones from mitsi subaru are tipping the scales at 1450 now.

I stand corrected:D , here the gti is a 2.0 16V and the mk3/mk3 is real slow (high 14sec 1/4miles). like i said the only serious Golf i like to race at the track is the R32 and even then i've never seen one that's real quick in person, i've seen them on the net though!!
