Re: Leaking sun roof

I didn't succeed with curtain wire, then I try this with cutting drain pipes. It works for sure. Front holes you can reach, but back holes I cud not find.

Last picture is for 5 door Stilo, I suppose that wagon has something simular. very close to this.

Re: Leaking sun roof

Hi all

I've had the same problem begin recently front offside drain hole appears blocked. I've tried strimmer wire and electrician's fibreglass draw tape. I dropped the lining in this region to dry it out more quickly and pulled the pipe off its spigot to get a straighter run. Both devices enter the pipe but become immoveable after about 1 metre is inserted. Does anybody know how to access the lower end of the pipe to see what the cause of blockage is? I'm assuming the wheel arch liner needs to come off, anybody know otherwise please?

After failing to clear my nearside drainage channels with net curtain wire I had to admit defeat and book it in at my local fiat dealership. They had to remove the roof lining and part of the sky window to remove and clear the drainage pipes (full of mold). Total cost was £130 (two hours labour).

Sadly my Stilo will be going back as when I opened the blind tonight it creased a little at each side then almost stopped retracting half way along till it ripped the blind from the metal strip that it is wrapped round on the leading edge! Me thinks they can't have aligned it right when they re-fitted the relevant part of the roof as it has always worked perfectly.

On another point I asked about the cambelt service as though my stilo has only done 48000 miles it will be six years old in September and the chap advised it will need replacing at a cost of £600! This seems a little steep to me, does anyone have a copy of the service schedule so I can see what else is done and get some other quotes??

Yes; that's a very expensive quote for a cam belt change.

A lot of lucky owners got it done for a just £150 using Fiatcare at main dealers but that offer is over now :(

Use search to get an idea of prices you should expect to pay.

leaking sky roof

Hi folks, I have water dripping out of the interior light & switch console (not into footwells) headlining is wet around overhead console and handbrake area is also wet from water dripping down. Water also in interior light. I have searched other posts/threads (thx Argo), do I still just clear out drain chanels with curtain wire, or is this only a fix for water entering footwells via s/roof drain pipe? Thx

Re: leaking sky roof

In my experience blocked drain channels will not cause water to collect in the header console (unless you park facing down hill and exactly level ;)).

Easy to check with a jug of water (just pour into drain channels and see what the water does).

I think one member (without sky-roof) had a leak from one of the roof bar mounts :chin:

Re: leaking sky roof on MWagon

OK I just spent 2 hrs trying to solve with a jug of water and a slope and a piece of heavy duty 4mm wire. My drivers side front s/roof drain channel/pipe is blocked, however I cant get the wire I have into the hole, can't even see or feel the hole, or the top of pipe. Saw Argo's photo of where the drain hole is, showing the curtain wire going into it, but I can't get my wire into it. Have people taken off the plastic consatina trim on the 1st glass panel to gain better access to the hole ? I also found the pipe running down the A piller, but I really dont want to cut it to clear the blockage as suggested in another post. Only leaked as we had monsoon rain here yesterday, if s/roof seals are working, I guess water should not get into the drain channels anyway.

Re: leaking sky roof

have you tried finding the exit point of the pipe and shoving 10 psi through the end of the pipe? that should shift it.

Re: leaking sky roof on MWagon

I had a similar problem. My issue turned out to be a leaking windscreen seal right at the the top of the screen, dead centre. Autoglass told me that they had encountered this before. Check that its not this by just placing a hose on the top of the screen, avoiding the sunroof.

I used a cable run tool to clear my drains they are very thin and flexible and can be bought for very little money.

Re: Stilo Skyroof leak

Just got caught out again with this. :bang:

Noticed that some water had overspilled, after a heavy downpour, into the passenger foot well and made a mental note to fix it at the weekend. That was a big mistake as the following night it bucketed down and in the morning found water sloshing around in the passenger foot well

Just given it a good clean again using the net curtain wire technique (read whole thread) and this time poured a good half gallon of warm water into the roof gutter and soon had it streaming out the exit hole.

Seems to me it only takes a bit of dirt to block the drain but why it's always the front passenger side is a bit of a puzzle :chin:

Well i have had a leak with mine for several weeks and today whilst the sun is shining and im not working i thought i would clear the front ones,

Well the passenger side one was i think blocked down the bottom end and i couldnt get the net curtain wire through so i took out the left hand screw from the sunvisor, removed the screen piller trim and folded back the corner of the roof lining and removed the tube from the sunroof and then pushed through the wire and cleared whatever was blocking that side poured down a kettle of boiling water and repeated the wire down tube drivers side followed by boiling water.

Hopefully cured till i get rid of this heap of junk.

Unblocking front drain channels on Skyroof

Just cleared a front drain pipe, but had to remove grab handle and sun visor so could remove drain pipe from sun roof surround as curtain wire and hot water would not remove blockage. Even after I peeled back the headlining and blew hard into pipe it was still impossible to remove blockage, but an electric tyre pump does the trick. Now the water has stopped running in at the top of the drives side A frame. Really is almost as easy as using the wire. Thx Muppet1 for your previous post.

Thanks all for your ideas.

Reading through all the posts , i tried a few things , wires , cables , coat hangers , nothing would go past a meter. So i decided to drop the roof and connect the drainage pipe up to my jet washer.Blew the sucker right through in seconds , then tested with a jug of water. That did the trick, it was very badly blocked. Now happy days the roofs drains freely now . Just waiting for a downpour to make sure , and the way the weather is at the moment, i dont think i will be waiting long.

Argonought ,, i agree , why is the passenger side worse ???

Re: Leaking sun roof

On my MW estate, the rear drains come down right at the back of the car. Take the side trim panels off in the boot to find them. I assume others are the same.

Thank you for the location of the rear roof drains,! Just discovered after many days of torrential rain that they were blocked and me parking facing uphill resulted in the rear seats being soaked :bang:

Anyway, I followed the pipes on both sides and they simply push though a grommet in the floor of the boot right behind the wheel arch, by far the simplest way of cleaning these pipes is to remove the boot compartments from either side (only Velcro'd) and pull the pipes up!

No crawling under the car and no need to cut the pipes (not a good idea inside the cabin if you ask me), replacement is just a case of stuffing them back through the grommet but as the pipe is cut at 45 degrees I made sure the opening faced away from the front of the car so as to avoid getting blocked with mud etc.

My only question is does anybody have an ingenious way of cleaning the drainage channel of the roof which is concealed by the glass at the rear?

Regards
Dave

Last week some water dripped on my knee and hand while braking in rain, I checked the internal pillar covers after getting home and 4 of them were soaking wet at the top.
I've found this topic and decided to give it a try today, bought a 98" (perfect length for the job btw) curtain wire in wilkinson for 73p and managed to successfully clean all 4 drains with it (pushing the wire from the bottom in case of the rear).
It took some effort though - the front left drain seemed to unblock but when I poured some water in - it blocked again, I had to repeat the process 3 times until it finally worked the treat although I was pushing&pulling the wire quite vigorously at each attempt.
Anyway - the method definitely works. :)

hi all,

I'm trying to clear a blocked hose in the drivers seat. I've stripped out the sun visor and grab handle that allows me to completely disconnect the hose from the sky roof. I've managed to insert a 6mm diameter drain cleaner (wire coil type) into the hose and partially clear a block, but I can't blow air through the hose as freely as i would expect.

Can anyone post a picture showing where the front hoses go to? Do they drain into the scuttle area beneath the windshield? which then drain behind the wheels?

Any help appreciated as I need to resolve this asap as my drivers footwell is getting soaked :(

Cheers

D.
