Hi guys I just want that someone who posses fiat stilo 2.4 20v abarth to help me on this issue, I bought a fiat stilo abarth two months ago, I have a doubt on smth, when I start the car on idle the rpm speed stays high up to 2000 rpm for at least 10 minutes, after 10 minutes it falls under 10 - or 1000 rpm which is the normal level, so the problem is that if I start driving immediately after starting the engine or when the idle is up to 2000 rpm, the car shakes so much till it gets stabilized after some km, so is it normal for this kind of car, that every time when I start the engine to wait 10 minutes and then start moving or should I go to the service to check where could be the problem ?

Hi Meriton - I too have a 2.4 Abarth.

The behavior of your car is not normal, no.

I would suggest that the cold / fast idle on choke (2,000rpm) is also way too high. When my car idles on choke it's probably at around 1,200rpm.

Check for air leaks after the MAF, including the oil breather pipe from the cam cover to the throttle body. It may well be that you're drawing in unmeasured air.

Leaks may only be tiny to have a big impact, so if you can take the pipe(s) off and thoroughly inspect them giving them a good bend about to have a look in all the folds, creases and so on.

When the car is cold, unplug the MAF meter and see if it still idles as high as 2,000rpm. It'll probably give you an engine light for being unplugged, but it should idle on choke normally with the air flow meter unplugged. Hot idle, i.e. no choke may well stall or 'hunt' rpm.

Don't drive with the sensor unplugged.

Artermis thanx for your response, today in the morning when I started the engine I have checked again the rpm on idle and I was wrong so mine also stays at around 1,200 rpm which sounds good, so now I have another question for you.
Do you always wait for car to warm up until the rpm gauge falls under 1000 rpm and then start moving or do you start moving immediately, because in my case if I start moving with rpm at 1,200 my car starts shaking for some km and than stabilizes, but if I wait up to 7 or 8 minutes in the morning until the rpm gauge falls under 1000 rpm then car moves smoothly without any problem.

Hi Meriton

No i can move off straight away, you should not be experiencing any shaking.

When was your car last serviced? I wonder if the spark plugs need changing or if you have a failing coil pack.

Artermis immediately when I bought the car I have done service, I've changed air filter petrol filter and oil, 5 / 40 w fully synthetic, but as I can see I have to sent it to fiat service to check where is the problem.

P.s What type of engine oil do you use in your car, mine has 180.000 Km passed.
