Lost all ability to change gear, all fluid lost. Looked underneath and it's leaking from the bell housing. I believe the slave cylinder is inside with the clutch these days, so am I right in saying this is most likely where the leak is, or is there a saviour out there who can tell me another easier alternative, than dismantling half the engine, drive shafts and gearbox, just to change a poxy slave cylinder.....

here's hopeful

double check on ePER..

Yes... the JTD has a Concentric Slave Cylinder inside the clutch bell housing. If you have a fluid leak then the CSC is the only place it can be coming from, since there's no other brake/clutch fluid-retaining component in there.

My recommendation is to buy a clutch kit complete with a CSC so that you can change both and then have done with any more clutch problems forever (it should last longer than the rest of the car now...)

I bought a Valeo 834005 kit (but check this will fit your JTD.. mine is a 2004 115bhp) for c. £150 from this geezer:

It's a gearbox off job.. which means it's a n/s wheel, liner, battery and case, cables and engine mounts-off job. I also removed the airbox and all the pipes to the inlet manifold to give myself room (to get the gearbox out under the car, since I couldn't lift the car tooooo high since my jack wouldn't reach to support the gearbox/I didn't want to drop it).

It's not a difficult.. just a lot of fiddling about in the depths of the engine. The worst part was removing the gear linkage (difficult to see round the back, either from above or below).

I also had to get a boy round to help me lift the gearbox back into place (no gearbox support.. just a trolley jack) and the beee-actch weighs getting on 50kg..

Good luck with it.. :D
