HI all,
I have recently purchased a second hand jtd 1.9 stilo and amongst a few other problems I am getting a judder when accelerating up to 2 k rpm.
Would any of you have any idea what this could be and how do I go about fixing it?
Also the pre ignition warning light comes on when I start the car but this does not seem to affect it in any way.
thanks
brett

I am having the same problem with my 1.4 still mines petrol though and I'm suspecting it's one of the coil packs I'm sure yours could be downloaded to a similar power problem

Any one else have any thoughts ?? I could really do with getting this sorted with out going to the expense of a main dealer.
Thanks

Rather annoyingly the problem with the juddering went away for a few days and now its returned again, I am starting to regret buying it now !!

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Hi,
The glow plug "coil" light coming on is normal operation. It comes on for longer in cold weather, you should start the car just after it goes out.
The judder could be any number of things. Where did you buy the car, private or dealer? Do you have any service history?
Ideally you should have someone run diagnostic software on the car either a fiat specialist or main dealer or someone with Multiecuscan. Where are you located? Do you work on the car yourself and intend to do your own servicing?

If you have no service history you could change the fuel and air filters, clean EGR valve and the MAP sensor. A diagnostic read is really the first thing though.

Thanks for the reply Robert, I purchased the car privately and I am based in Leicestershire.
I disconnected what I believe was the map sensor after reading other posts regarding the juddering, it didn't seem to make any difference to the issue so I reconnected it. The engine management light stayed on even when it was reconnected and stayed on for almost a week before clearing, strangely this seemed to coincide with a few days of the car not juddering at low revs.

I really appreciate any advice given as I am a complete goof when it comes to car mechanics and maintenance.

I'm guessing you live in Cosby which is not a Universe away from Harborough where I live.
I have a 2002 JTD and MES software but unfortunately my laptop is Kaput. If I can help let me know.

That's a really kind offer, sorry for my ignorance but what is the MES software for ?

This will explain it better than I ->

Ah got you now!! sound really interesting. So would this enable me to run a diagnostic? I take it you have the cables to hook it u to a computer then...come to think of it I need to reprogram my remote key as well, would I be able to do that also ?
Thanks
Brett

If it's "electrical" it could be the MAF sensor (by the airbox) or the turbo boost valve under the n/s headlamp (or associated leak in the pipes to it). I'd guess the MAF since the boost valve would also affect "pickup" at higher speed.

If it's "mechanical" .. it could be the fuel filter (cylinder the size of a soup can next to the brake fluid reservoir). These accumulate water so they do have a service (i.e. replace it) interval, if yours looks pretty old?
