hey people , im still stuck with my airbag issue !! since november

ok so whats the difference between all the airbag ecu units i have a estate with a ecu 51717959 but i tried to plug in a 3 door version and a 5 door and they just dont fit. but i cant find the one i need.

so is the part number interchangable with any others or will i need to send mine away for repair ?


it doesnt conect to the laptop anymore and the lights stay on without going off on start up

I discovered this when diagnosing a problem with one of my MWs last year. I tried swapping the ECUs between the 2 but the connectors wouldn't fit. The one I was diagnosing has 8 airbags, the other one only has 6.

The airbag ECUs are different depending on how many airbags are fitted, and whether the car has an OCS or not.

Part number 51717959 is for cars with the full complement of 8 airbags (driver and passenger front, 2 front seats, 2 rear seats and 2 curtain), and without OCS.

None of the ECUs are interchangeable because the connectors are all different. I believe the connectors are all coloured differently. Part number 51717959 has a grey connector.

if 51717959 is without OCS then how come mine is saying its open circuit and internal faul.?
out of the other cars i pulled the ecu out of they all had the soundeding mat on top of it and mine didnt so i am wondering if mines been swapped before i got the car. lights always been on
but the connectors fit ?

That's strange, because although ePER (the Fiat parts catalogue) lists part number 51717959 for 8 airbags and without OCS, the Stilo I had the problem with is the same as yours and has the OCS. It doesn't have the OCS label sewn into the seat cover seam, that I've seen in other Stilos with the OCS though. Can't imagine what's happened there.

I bought an ECU via eBay for £47 but I can't remember if I needed it, because according to my eBay history, shortly after I bought the ECU, I also bought an OCS emmulator.

If you're anywhere near SE London or NW Kent, you're welcome to come and try it.

you sure its without ocs ? not with ?

OCS can be turned off in software, you need to rewrite the eeprom in the unit.

If you want to get another one might be worth emailing this italian guy to see if he still has this one:

is the 51717959 the ecu you have to hand ? god i so need to get this car moted now as i am loosing the space its parked in too and needs to get on the road . i would love to try it , mot the car and hand the ecu and a drink back
