Evening guys,

Had some problems with my manifold cat down pipe.

It split on the flange that bolts to the flexi at the beginning of the mid section, had it welded and then replaced the whole front piece (whole manicat) then 6000miles later the bracket to the gearbox and exhaust worked loose. Had it tightened up and 2000 miles later the manicats down pipe after the cat had split its weld.

Took it back under warranty and had a different brand manicat fitted but without the gearbox bracket.

All has been well, for 1300 miles 10 weeks, then the MIL light came on after flooring it to 2nd then the misses noticed the car sounded louder, on inspection - the new manicat has split again, in the same place as before.

My garage is going to sort it... However, its took endless rummaging with a few garages who have checked my car and engine mounts and advised all is ok, put it down to bad luck.

So, fingers crossed

The suppliers have no stock of my manicat now but will have one fabricated and strengthened on the down pipe welds but will take a few days, at least it's going to get fixed.

Anyone else with problems like this?

Is there still a flex section in the middle pipe, seen some custom job with no flex this passes all the shaking to the cat. Are the back exhaust rubber in good nick?

Yea, i had a replacement mid-section (with flexi) fitted in November 2014 (think it was 2014), the old flexi was blowing so had the middle section replaced, cost around £26 / £28 on ebay.

All rubbers are good, back box does blow a little where the pipes slide over each other and clamp up (could do with removing the mid pipe and back box and give the sections a good clean where they slide together as the garage who fitted my new mid section did a crap rush job when putting my old back box back on.

Would be soooo much easier if i had my own lift!! I would do all my own work!

New manicat being fitted again, as i post this im walking round clekheaton waiting for my car.

Noticed a new oil leak when i dropped it off and they lifted her up, inner shaft seal has gone, luckily my box an cluth kit was replaced 9 months ago and is covered under warranty, booked in at top gear for repair under warranty in around two weeks, another day off work and will be without my motor!!

Also, the new manicat didn't get strengthened, the manufacturer didnt have time / resource to have the downpipe welds strengthened, they have said if it breaks again they will replace it again... Hopefully it wont, this manicat also has the gearbox bracket where as the last one didnt and one before that did... Fingers crossed for MOT tomorrow!!!

Ok, manicat fitted and been told my rear engine mount stabiliser is shot, hence exhaust taking strain off the mounts, easy job if the bolt into subframe comes out.

MOT failed on rear bush in the N/S wishbone, easier to replace whole wishbone, rear disc worn n weakened, changed rear disc n pads minus three gudeon pins! Pain in the arse, front pads also failed but discs ok, changing both tomorrow (disc n pads) and front wishbone, emissions failed but that's been sorted, reset faults on ECU and engine runs sweet again so should be fine...
