General Wrote my Stilo off ?

Pete,

I spent £1K on the car. Then had a major service, terraclean treatment (can't recommend enough) a new battery, two repairs to the cooling system (only as temporary repairs)
All in its cost me £1600 in 2 months.

Normally I only spend £220-£400 and then nothing on them. If they go wrong I just scrap them and buy something else. I must admit to loving chopping and changing.
This Peugeot 206 is my 36th car in nearly 11 years and I think the longest I've ever kept a car is around 12 months (my brand new Fiat Panda - still my favourite car I've owned)

All 3 of my Stilos had various electrical faults, it's something you have to come to terms with when owning a Stilo!

Hi Sam

You sound like me just this year from January to now ive had 4 cars including the stilo the first one was a Chrysler Grand voyager although i had that one a year up until January then came 2 more cars then the stilo came along i seem to have stuck to this one for the time being its been good owning this one and gradually seeing it all put right its been a challenge but im getting there... ive lost count of how many cars ive owned over the years :D... Hope you get on with the Peugeot ok ive had 2 of those one was a 405 the other was a 205 and both of them had problems but that's going back a long time now

Hi Pete,

Sounds like we're in the same boat! I've had a Clio, 400, Puma, Stilo and now my 206 so it's been a busy year car wise!

What are the main problems you've had with your Stilo?

The main reason I chose mine was the fact it had so many options added - ESP, rear electric windows, upgraded stereo and sub, parking sensors, auto lights and wipers.

Added to that were problems: parking sensors that hardly ever worked, Check Engine warning (all that was was a blown bulb for the EML warning light) Oil in the cooling system (either the previous owner put oil in it or the oil cooler has failed and leaked into the cooling system) coolant pipe from the expansion tank burst and pissed all over the cambelt, took two attempts to fix the pipe temporarily. Had difficulty starting the car and found the battery had a dead cell and needed replacing and finally the engine cover was hanging off but also fused to the car!

I do keep coming back to Stilos and Fiat's. It's a bit of a love/hate relationship. My dream attainable car is an Orange Fiat Panda Cross mk1!

It was a lovely car but also a ticking time bomb lol. The turbo was making chirping sounds and when the coolant system broke it pissed all over the cambelt. Both could have gone at any point and written off the car!

The 206 is actually doing better on fuel than I anticipated. Only problem is it's intermittently misfiring and has stalled for no reason three times. Automatically thought of the coil pack until I read it's a world wide epidemic that was featured on BBC Watchdog! Apparently some people change spark plugs and it goes away others spend £500 on a new ECU and it still persists.
Just going to have to be one of those things I put up with. At least if this car goes bang it only owes me £300.
The Stilo and all its repairs and servicing still owes me £1600 on my credit card :bang:

You can't say a car owes you anything when you have to spend money on scheduled servicing, its to be expected on any car. The only one you might be able to say you're owed for is the coolant system repair as isn't a generally expected serviceable item.

Yes I can - It owes me as I don't normally keep a car long enough to service them, I serviced it and two months later scrapped it. It's on my credit card so it definitely still owes me.

As for the Panda Cross - they've only made 2 so far. I want a MK1 Panda Cross which was started on Panda MK2 not MK3

Its on your CC as you haven't paid it, saying it owes you is wrong though, its scheduled servicing.

Thats like buying a new car, selling it 10 years later and saying it owes you the money you've lost in depreciation, and everything its cost you in scheduled servicing. Its called the costs of motoring.

And I repeat the mk2 Panda did not have a Cross, only the mk3 and current mk4.

My credit card bill shows me exactly what the car owes me, whether you agree with what I've said is neither here nor there.

As far as I'm aware there have only been 3 generation of Pandas: 1980 Mk1, 2003 Mk2 and 2011 Mk3. Panda Cross was introduced as a variant of the Mk2 and therefore is the Panda Cross Mk1.

Generations and Mks are different things.

Generation 1: Mk1 (1980-1986) & Mk2 (1986-2003)
Generation 2: Mk3 (2003-2012)
Generation 3: Mk4 (2012-present)

:)

There's obviously been crossed wires between the original meaning of what I said and what you replied. In my comment I originally said I wanted a Fiat Panda Cross Mk1. As in the first Cross model, not the current one making it the Mk1and the current one a Mk2

Yep, we've tried to keep the wiki page up to date with the mk and gen thing, but have given up as it keeps getting changed back.

The reason it fell out of sync with mk1&2 is because although it look identical to the untrained eye, mechanically and parts wise there is almost nothing identical about them, panels are all different, along with interior and engines etc.

I'm always happy to learn something new!

So I've owned 3 Mk2 Pandas not the Mk1s. I'd love to have a 1.1 Selecta or Sisely. I adored my 1.0 Selecta, I was gutted when I totalled it in a head on collision. Such brilliant cars.

We've 2 1.1 Selecta's, amazing cars, and defo my favorite Panda. So fast at 0-30mph, would beat most things from the lights, before they then caught up and came flying past :p :)

Hi Sam

You asked the problems ive had with my stilo i came to me with these problems already on it so here goes remember ive had the car since April

1 Drivers window did,nt work = needed a new mechanism

2 Airbag light on now fixed

3 Glow plug preheater message = turned out to be the relay

4 Reverse lights did not work = turned out to be the switch

5 Drivers seat needed replacing

6 Central locking packed up after i had it turned out to be just a fuse

7 remote did not work needed reprogramming did that myself with the multiecuscan program i now have on my laptop

8 Boot did not open on central locking or remote = turned out to be the boot lock was disconnected for some reason

9 Both o/s door check straps missing now replaced

im now in the process of removing the tints from the rear windows they were worn out and too dark

things still to do = need a new tyre for the spare
rear nearside inside boot bulb cover needs replacing = it keeps falling off

so you see its been quite a project :D

My 1.0 Selecta only had 45bhp but that flew! As you said from a standstill nothing comes close for the first few metres. Oh how I enjoyed the look on people's faces when they got smoked by an old tin box!

Always wanted a 1.1 Selecta, don't they have 55-60BHP?

Seems like it's kept you a busy boy Pete!

Also sounds like it wasn't that well cared for by previous owners. I know the Stilo isn't the most reliable of cars but care worn ones are probably the ones to avoid like the plague, in my experience they're usually the ones to give most trouble.

Still, at least you've nearly sorted everything out now. Get to a scrap yard for your light cover and use a hair dryer to remove the tints.

If you're not far from Cannock there is a scrap yard with about 4 Stilos in it at the moment (y)

Forgot to mention my stilo also came with Aftermarket hid lights and 17in alloy wheels its the 1.9 jtd and its fast.... not that im a fast driver though there,s plenty of power to spare if you need it especially when that turbo kicks in

Pete..
