my stilo engine is poorly it has 150k on the clock a wobble in the engine properly the dull mas and the turbo has had it . anyway been looking for a cheep stilo to take the engine out of but have had no luck . i was thinking of tuning it up a bit before it died , now im thinking can i put the alfa jtd 2.4 10v lump in as there are a lot easier to find and pretty cheep but would i be opening a great big fat can of worms or would it b just a mater of swaping this and that from the alfa to the stilo ??? if any one has the knowledge on this matter it would b great to hear if its a good idea or a bad one...

As Mark has said, ECU issues will be your main problem.

Out of interest, as someone who has thought about the OP's plan before, can a custom ECU be made? Or is this a "Money no object" task?

I'm not sure if you can do this its just an idea. I've spent some time pouring over the wiring diagrams for my 1.9 recently and as far as i'm aware not all the pins on the ECU connector (both of them but more specifically the one that the injectors are wired into) are used so could you not get around the ECU issue by adding in the wiring for the 5th injector and re-mapping the ECU?
At the end of the day its just running a program and is told which pins to power and when so in theory you could tell it to power an extra set of pins. (I'm aware thats a massive simplification)

On another issue, how much extra torque does the 2.4 have and how much more does it weigh? I.E will the standard gearbox and drivetrain be able to handle it and would any extra weight still be within the limits of your current suspension?

mmmmmmm i was thinking just buy whole car (alfa 156 2.4 jtd 10v) and just swap whatever it took to make it work even if that meant swaping every thing, so it was an alfa in a stilos body , what isnt compatible swap and whats plug n play result , is this possible is it worth it ????

I could imagine some desperate moments, because so much is wired into the computerised systems nowadays, but in theory that seems viable. For someone with a lot of time and creativity.

A lot of work to get 136bhp though - if you were going to all that trouble, a 20v 173bhp engine would be more attractive.

yes if all i wanted was a bit more grunt ' anyone could get more than 136bhp out of the 1.9 8v 115 but the 2.4 10v 150bhp model slightly tweeked to 175 bhp would make a more reliable engine . not to mention cheaper to buy and maintain and run, but yeah would be nice a 20v tweeked to around 250 bhp . i wouldnt mind the 6 speed box tho .. does anyone know if they did a 6 speed on the 10v???

Isn't the whole point, really, of a diesel - MPG and low down torque? In an application such as a Stilo, I would have thought the main concern was MPG. How many MPG are you likely to get from a tweaked 2.4 10v? If I was spending the money and my main concern was not MPG, get an Abarth and enjoy it!
