Hi just bought myself a 3 door JTD Dynamic Stilo with 98K on the clock FSH on a 54 plate for £1200. Loving it so far. Before i bought i had a scroll through this forum and many reports on this car stated that it had poor fuel consumption late 40 to mid 50's. Took mine for a steady drive today with the cruise control on and it's averging 60-62 mpg in built up areas and around 63-65 mpg on the motorways. I haven't been flooring it, was just wondering if these figures are about right or if there is something up with the trip computer?

Cheers,
Tom

Also do the Stilo diesels have a DPF if anybody knows?. Had a 307 HDI what had a DPF and that's the reason i sold it. Had no end of issues with the DPF and in general with that car!

these cars DONT have poor fuel consumption, they are very economical.

that said, I drive 3 miles to work everyday, and 3 miles back. MY average is around 40Mpg. This goes up and down of course. ON a run, I get in excess of 50-60Mpg. That is superb economy. Are you looking at the correct MPG indicator, there are two. You need to look at the average MPG after Trip Distance b - press the button eight times to get there. The first MPG is the average you get in real time, as it were, but you need to see your actual average....

I've been looking at the figures after the trip distance so yeah like mentioned... These figures never went below 60 mpg which really did shock me! I did around 60 miles motorway and general driving, i'm used to driving a 2.0 HDI unit which was averaging round about 47 mpg all in all.

yeah, looking at your photo your in the first average MPG which I don't pay attention to, I only pay attention to the B range, because that tells me what im doing that particular trip, whera's as the first one is a sort of total average - point being your local town to town MPG might be lower on the trip B...

if any of that makes sense!!

yup, sounds good to me, I get similar, they are more economical than you realise - like you I was very surprised when I got mine. I was expecting/hoping for 40mpg, so when I started getting over 60 on a run, I couldn't believe it. I have checked this also by brimming the tank and working it out - its correct!

one thing to note however, when you reset the trip computer, your B MPG will probably drop significantly around town - if it does don't worry because itll be right if you are getting high 30s low 40s - your current 60odd around town is partly because you have had some longer runs in between - but if you were to reset it and ONLY drive around town, the average will drop as the computer works out the economy based on how you drive, etc etc!

Thanks for the reply Clivvy! I'm loving it so far nice and perky, lot's of nice little gadgets and of course exceptional fuel consumption!

yep i agree the fuel consumption on the jtd is pretty good.
i get around 47mpg to and from work (usually a mad dash, or heavy traffic) then a run to alton towers (3 hour drive) i see an average of 55- 60 mpgs.

the jtd DOES have a dmf, but do what i did, when you need your clutch changed get it welded up, no more dmf (if you cannot do it get a garage to do it - only about £30 tops).
when my clutch failed it was the DMF that failed - the clutch was actually still servicable.
when our 407sw goes i will do the same.
the only difference is slightly noiser ticker over (actually sounds like a diesel).

Well this is a bit of a wake up. On the motorway, sitting at about 60, rolling down hills and just feathering the throttle, I can get 70mpg+. Often up around 75mpg. Starting to wonder now whether the previous owner had it remapped for economy!

I usually get 590-630 miles to a tank, which by manual calculations works out to be pretty much dead on 50mpg. The computer usually settles between 48 & 51 mpg, so is pretty accurate.

I would imagine that unless those claiming 60-70mpg are getting more than 630 miles to a tank, they're not actually getting 60-70mpg. Their trip computers sound a bit optimistic!

The Stilo JTD does have a DMF (dual mass flywheel) as stated, unfortunately. However, it doesn't have a DPF (diesel particulate filter). It's just a standard old-school Common-Rail diesel, and all the better for it. Fiat only fitted particulate filters as standard when they moved over to 1.6 & 2.0 Multijet engines. The later 1.9's in the Grande Punto/Bravo got DPFs as an option but as far as I'm aware no Stilo's had them. Thank God.

Thank the lord for that! haha 'old school common rail' Any common rail diesels seem new to me had an old Escort Van for almost 4 years straight with the good old indirect injection N/A engine in it. They were the days... Thanks for all the feedback!

I got 225 miles from 15 litres.. probably 85% of that was motorway driving. I think it works out at about 70mpg?
Is there actually any way of telling whether your cars being remapped? Ive got a ton of papers and receipts with it, I think I might have a rummage through it. But the previous owners I think were both women who did about 6/7000 mile a year. Might be jumping to stereotypes, but I can't see why they would go to the fuss of getting it mapped..
