Had to drive through some big puddles yesterday, i knew the car would freak out.

On my way home the engine failure, abs, security fault all sorts came on, in the end managed to get it started (y) but then about 5mins in just before i was getting on the motorway the horn start going constantly, i had to pull over and disconnect the battery, it stopped but when i connected it again it started up again, so took the fuse out (i just needed to get home at this point) it worked, took awhile but got it started again. Again all the fault were still there

I got home (woop woop)

But my head lights wouldnt turn off my, engine was still running with no key in there.

Disconnected the battery overnight, this morning the car wouldnt even try to start so got a jump, just airbag fault now, head lights still stuck on, at the moment its starting ok, cant find the horn fuse (normal fuses dont fit :bang:)

So ive disconnected the thing again will try again later, dont want the light draining the battery.

For the past month the windows sometimes open when i open the car, tried spraying WD40 in the lock but doesnt do anything. And the petrol flap snapped off, got a new one but trying to acess the bolt to get the old part off 2 of the screws holding the pannel on are buggered.

I have an engine cover but looks like there should be something over the battery and fuses (i have a little flimsy thing over the battery) but there look to be bolts for something bigger that cover the battery and fuse box, looked on ebay cant find anything.

Car hates the rain, i love the car but also hate it, bought it to use but the problems just seem never ending.

Rar!

Googled and it the cover on the right im looking for, need to get hold of one

It wasnt on all stilo's as standard, my 2006 plate stilo doesnt have a battery cover as such just a really small bit of plastic that covers the terminals.

You can buy them from any fiat dealership, god knows how much that would set you back though!!! (n) Best bet is to go on ebay and find a stilo thats being broken for parts and the battery cover will probably set you back around £10 :)

Thanks will ask around, yeah thats what i have a small bit of plastic. Dont know if it would help but i will give anything a go to keep it dry, hopfully it wont freak out so much on me

I get most of my parts from breakers yards it doesnt hurt to phone up and ask :)

If you havent got a plastic floor tray that sits under the engine getting one of those might help keep it even more dry, just an idea (y)

I have a small plastic floor tray under the battery, but nothing under the engine.

Found the fuse for the horn, tried it but its still stuck on (n) and the engine light is back on, and the headlights dont turn off unless the battery is disconnected....but it starts *touch wood*

Have got the hood up at the min hopeing it will dry out...also cleaned the inside of the car, not that will will help in anyway lol

What engine size is it? and age etc...

the engine warning light was showing on my friends 1.6 after it was running on its own without the key in the ignition. i just disconnected the battery cleaned up the terminals made sure all was dry and clean/re-greased, and the warning lights went away.

02 reg 1.2

will have a go at cleaning them up and re-greasing them, thanks again (y)

Problem is likely to be caused by water ingress into the grey, engine fuse box. You will need to seperate the two halves of it to dry it out completely.

There's a guide here: https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo-guides/313986-how-clean-dry-out-fuse-box-near-battery.html
.

All Stilos were fitted with the large battery cover as standard. Some also had a small plastic cover over the master fuse board on top of the battery.

If getting the large battery cover from a breakers, the design of it (and the battery box) changed on 15/09/03 and again on 15/07/05. Be sure to get one from the same period car as yours.

The cover is £110 + VAT from a stealer. I picked one up from a breakers for £25 including vat and postage.
My fuse box had been arcing and was burnt in a couple of places so bought a new one. No problems since.
What model of Stilo do you have? I have a spare fuse box (wrong one for my car) that is going on ebay shortly.

Thank you will try to dry it out.

As of today the security light is on engine light, the horn is stuck on

The lights arn't on now (y)

Thanks for you help

Its a 2002 Fiat Stilo 1.2 Active, ive got the fuse box out (forgot to press reply on my last post) there are burn marks on the top, ive messaged a guy on ebay says he has the cover just waiting to hear how much.
(y)

Ive put it all back together.

The windows seem to open everytime i open the car now.
The horn is finally off and works normally.
The security light is off.
But the engine fault is still on.

The car is starting everytime now, no struggling so thats fantastic (y)

Petrol light is now on lol

I'm quite glad I wrote that guide now - thanks Davren for referencing it twice in the last couple of days :)

Did you manage to get the fusebox apart and dried out?

Do the windows go down if you use the remote locking (does your Stilo have remote locking...?)

You'll probably need a diagnostics cable to investigate the engine fault. MultiECUScan (50 euros) and an Elm327 cable (30 euros?) are well worth it in the long run, especially if this isn't the only Italian car you'll own. No cable mods or adapters are necessary to access engine ECU and instrument panel (for service reset) plus body computer to check for other faults.

That guide is fantastic, i would never of dared to give it a go otherwise. (y)
Yep got it apart and dried out.

My remote locking doesn't work, changed the battery and i do have the key code. The windows have been doing this for awhile but hit and miss, i tried spraying WD40 in the lock, thinking it could be sticking but didn't work.

I have been looking into to multiscan, might be worth getting. (y)

Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it.
