Got my new Stilo last week its an 02 1.6 16V Active model and I now have my first two problems with it. The first problem is that the car was only serviced just before I bought it but it comes up saying low oil pressure stop engine (weirdly though it only does this when I press the brake but when I press the accelerator it turns off?) My other problem which may be linked to it is that my brake lights are always on even when I drive? One more little question its not a problem but I'm just curious.. Why do my hazards not blink when I lock the car with the key fob? Thanks everyone

My Stilo doesn't flash it's hazards when locking, mines a 1.2, I don't think it's anything to worry about unless you don't hear the deadlocks engaging ;)

I had the exact problem you had with the brake lights. When I first got mine the brake lights were always on - I would push the pedal up with my foot from underneath to hold it against the brake light switch LOL I solved it by glueing washers to the top of the brake pedal where it touches the brake switch. I reckon the correct way of fixing the problem however is to replace the brake switch - awkward to do though! Maybe that will solve your oil pressure warning? But take one step at a time :)

It's very easy for the brake light switch to go out of adjustment. For example: if your foot slips off the pedal and it springs back up or if your foot were under the pedal and you pulled it up from it's rest position.

You could try adjusting the switch which is above the top of the brake pedal. You'd need a pair of angled long nose pliers. (or strong fingers)

Take off the black plastic sound deadening that covers the top of the pedals (2 plastic clips).
Hold the brake pedal down and pull the switch plunger with the pliers (it's on a ratchet and should click as you pull it) then let the brake pedal back up SLOWLY.

If that doesn't cure the problem, next thing to try is a new switch.

EDIT: There's a guide to replacing and adjusting the brake light switch here:

Flashing indicators with locking can be turned on with the Fiat Examiner diagnostic equipment or with FiatECUScan.

With FES, connect to the Body Computer, then click "Adjustments" then "Indicators command" then "Execute".

You'll need the car's security code to complete the function.

looking at the age of your car, i had a 03 model that done the same with the low oil pressure, in the end it was down to the software and fiat updated it - the problem went away.
As long as your oil is correct grade and has enough in - the fault clears when you touch the accelerator then your probo ok. I will see if i can find my old service manual for that car and put the details on here for ya if you decide to take it to the dealers for an update (thats if ive not thrown it out).

I'm gonna buy a breaking switch and a FiatECUScan... If thats what it's called shouldn't the diagnostic tell me whats wrong wit he car?

Alright lads I have an update me dad has a diagnostic thing that gives you the codes and I hooked it up and here's the codes I got. P0460 P0335 and P0571. The codes where fuel pressure sensor, Brake switch sensor and crankshaft sensor. How easy are they to fix? Thanks

P0460 = Fuel Level Sensor Circuit Malfunction.
This often occurs if the battery is in a low state of charge.

P0335 = Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction.
Could be a faulty sensor, or the circuit between the sensor and the engine management ECU.

P0571 = Cruise Control/Brake Switch A Circuit Malfunction.
Could be a faulty or mal adjusted brake light switch, or the circuit between the switch and either the body computer, engine management ECU, ABS ECU or high level brake light.

So would this be the alternator not charging the car?

For these two where would I begin to go about fixing them? Start with the sensors? Or check fuses first? Or would it tell me on the diagnostic if that was it? Thank you

thats pretty helpful info, How much did you pay for Fiat to update software, Im having multiple ecu/electrical problems, e.g low oil pressure at random intervals (even though oil is fine), plate bulb blown (when it hasnt) The problem seems to happen a lot less now as I had to swap the fuse box under the bonnet due to a couple of the fuse slots being beyond repair and arcing. but would love to know if I can possibly upgrade software running on ecu. Im running in a 1.6 02 plate Stilo. any answers would be appreciated. :)

i bought the car brand new and the newer software was around 2004- 2005, the update cost me around £35 to do if memory serves, you can probo add a few quid to that now. Just give a good dealer a call and ask them about the update.

Thank you for the info pal, I'll give my local dealership a call and see what they can do seeing as it isn't too Much. :) again thank you for the info mate ;) really useful. :)
